I am taking a zoology class at college, and of course they have all kinds of animals in the lab room-- frogs, tarantulas, millipedes, turtles, geckos, mud puppies, a sea anemone-- and quite a few snakes, none of which look to be in the very best of shape.

Well, there is an absolutely gorgeous green arboreal python that I've admired since I first started class at the beginning of the semester-- and this morning I found out that apparently it bit the crap out of some girl who was "waving it around in her hands". Apparently she was in the biology club and that's why she was allowed to hold the snake. How can someone think it's ok to wave a poor terrified animal around and NOT expect it to bite? Poor snakey :(

Now one of the teachers is trying to socialize the python more... I just feel bad for the poor thing and needed to vent :(

unfortunately alot of ppl think they know everything and end up being the ones tht know the least!

it is good tht the snake is getting more socializing in now though!

Yeah, I always kind of feel bad for animals doomed to a life of sitting in a classroom in a dirty cage with little interaction :(

Er, socialize it? They should just leave it alone. It may never warm up to humans, and no one should try to force it. The stress of being handled often can do a lot of harm to a snake.

Ouch... If the snakes are in poor shape, I don't even want to think about the shape the turtles must be in... Snakes are easy-peasy compared to the more intense requirements of a turtle... Space, UVB, varied diet, proper filtration if they're aquatic, so on and so forth... Poor things...

Seriously, this person has the bright idea to take what sounds like a Green Tree Python, already known for their generally hyper defensive attitudes, and wave it around? I'd have been more concerned if a GTP didn't bite the crap out of her in that situation. And then this teacher thinks it's a good idea to try and socialize it? Probably just stress it out more, most likely totally in vain? Ugh...

Yeah, the lone turtle seems to be really sad... He always tries to escape, (I think he's a red-eared slider, so he's aquatic) and from the looks of it, his tank is almost never cleaned and he shares his tank with several fish (feeder fish? I don't know a lot about turtles, I've never had one)

There's also a garter snake with a chunk missing from its back that always rushes to the front of its cage when I walk by, and a leopard gecko that lost its tail. One day I went in and there was a new snake, some kind of gorgeous python, and I was so tempted to do a jailbreak >_>
