Hello :) I dont own a snake yet, but have been looking into gettin a corn snake. I did a bunch of reading and so far it looks as though they make good "pet" snakes. It was all my son's idea of course. He's 8 yrs old, and had been buggin me about gettin a snake. Now the more I read about them, the more excited I get about having one! I stumbled on this forum, and it seems as though there are some very experienced people here that can help me out with info when needed. Im hoping to have my corn within the next week or two. (Im waiting on my income tax money.) Im also looking forward to gettin to know some other corn owners! Well I guess thats it for my rambling, lol. Take care all. :)

Congratulations, and welcome to the "addiction".
Corns are usually very forgiving for a first snake.
The "best in the business" frequent this forum, so you're in the right place

Welcome Desi

You really don't know what you're letting yourself in for if you're anything like 90% of the corn owners I know.

They REALLY are addictive. I used the old 'Getting it for my son' routine when I got 'his' first snake. Of course I decided very quickly he was incapable of looking after it properly and I adopted it for the sake of the snakes well being of course.

I've never owned any other kind of snakes, so I have nothing to compare them too with regard how 'easy' they are to look after, but I have found them an absolute breeze to care for. Simple housing requirements, simple feeding requirements, wonderful temprament, not too big, fantastic range of colours and patterns, all in all the perfect pet as far as I'm concerned.

To really get the most out the little guy when you get him, visit this forum regularly and ask questions, and when you think you have the answers, ASK some more. It's a never ending learning curve but an enjoyable one. Don't be afraid of asking the obvious either (we all have at some time or other and continue to do so).

Guess I should shut up now, I'm even boring myself.....

Let us know when you've got him and post some pics if you can.....

Congrats...You have definatly come to the best place for CS information. Hats off to you for doing your research first before purchasing. As said above, it is an Addiction!

LOL. Yes, I knew when he asked for one that it for sure will mostly be mine to take care of. The whole reason I have been researching how to care for them and so on.

And thank you all for the warm welcome! I will definatly be asking lots of questions when I get him/her. And I will post some pictures also. Thank you again! :)

Welcome to the addiction...I mean forum  It's fun and there are other people that understand your addiction (unlike the rest of my family...they're slowly coming over).

LOL Me too . . .

I got Monty for my kids (13 YO and 6 YO). It's turned into a realy joke tho . . . it's pretty clear whose snake he really is . . . (MINE!! ALL MINE!!! :grin01: LOL). We've only had him a couple months and I'm already getting some more this weekend . . . I want a pair of ghosts . . . and a nice girl for Monty . . . LOL Really, I wanted another one so that I could stagger their feeding schedules and always have one that I could handle, I find the 48 hours after feeding him to be pure torture . . . so then I decided if I'm gonna get another I ought to get a girl and breed . . . then I decided I wanted a ghost . . . then I discovered breeding a ghost with a normal will produce all normal looking babies . . . and so on. See how this happens?!?

Anyway, really, corns are great for kids. My 2 love Monty, my 6 year old blows him a kiss everytime he walks past the viv. It is so cute. They love to hold him, and watch him eat. It is a lot of fun, really. And once you have your set-up fixed up, most corns are lower maintenance than fish. No kidding. It's good that you are researching before getting your corn, I did too and I think it makes a world of difference. These people on this forum are a fantastic help on every possible corn topic, you came to the right place!

Welcome to the forums! You've come to the absolute best place you can be for info and help on cornsnakes. It's so nice to hear that you've done your research before purchasing your new snake. And don't forget to post pics as soon as you can! :wavey:

I forgot to mention...

I bought the book "The Corn Snake Manual" by Bill and Kathy Love. I think I saw that book mentioned on this forum somewhere, so I hope that means it's a good research book to learn about these lil guys! It sure seems like a very informative book. And I would also like to thank you all for the very warm welcome you have given me.... makes me know I can feel comfortable asking any questions I will have. Lookin forward to talking to you all!

Yup, you bought 'The Cornsnake Bible' as it's commonly refered to around here. Did you get her new book, or the older one?

Most of your questions are answered there and Kathy is always super quick with her responses to any question ANYONE might have.

If the questions arent answered in the book, there is a good chance someone has brought it up and you can locate that by using the search feature and typing in a key word.

For example, if your snake had a bad shed or regurgitated it's first meal you could type in 'bad shed' or 'regurge' and come up with a very big list of threads to look over.

Welcome to the forums and your new addiction!

Welcome to the forum :crazy02: You will find them so addictive. I got my first last year and now I have 4 and im breeding them this year! Im sure your son will love him/her too, they are so placid and a great snake to have. Will look forward to the pictures.
