I will be receiving my first corn snakes on friday. I am getting a sunglow motley male and a Anerythristic Motley Hurricane female. What I need to know is , that besides the basics housing is there anything I need to get before they get here. When i was buying stuff for their tanks at the pet store, the hve all these vitamins and supplements and some minor medical aids for reptiles. I have ordered the cornsnake manual from Kathy Love, but it won't arrive until friday also. Just anything that anyone can suggest that i have on hand. These are my first snakes and I want to make sure that I have everything before hand. Thanks,
Dana LeDuc :wavey:

don't worry about the suppliments and all.

Basics for a tank:
a tank
a hide
heating source (UTH or lamp)
Thermometer (x2, one for hot side and one for cold)
Hydrometer (to test humidity)
substrate
water dish

Anything else that you want like tree branches for climbing and the like is up to you, but not needed. I wou,s suggest that you put each snake in it's very one viv so that you don't have to worry about any of the ill side effects of housing 2 together. If you have any more questions, hollar them out.

Yes i have the thermometer and humidity gauge, the heaters, hot side is 83 degrees and cold side is 77. is that right? have 2 hides for each water dish for each, separate tanks and an extra tank for feeding. just wanted to make sure i didnt need to go out and buy supplements or anything else. thanksI can't wait to get them. :)

Sounds like you have everything that you need...except the snakes. Good luck with them and post some pictures as soon as you can.

Thank you. Hopefully i will be able to get pictures soon. I was to that I shouldnt handle them to much for the first 2-3 days after i get them. Is that about right? they are being shipped fed ex.

correct. You should give any new hatchling 5 to 7 days of peace and quiet after you introduce them to a new home. The only thing that you should do that might bother them is to change the water. After the week is up, take them out and hold them for a while so that they can get used to you, and then feed them, and put them away again for at least 48 hours to digest the meal.

if u want to get a stick for climbing bake it in the oven first on 300 degrees fir 15 minuts to kill any parasites that might live on or in it

Also, if you take a log, cut it in half so that you have 2 "U" shaped peices, you can hollow it out and then boil them. Then set them in the viv with the opening towards the bottom of the viv and you have two great hides. Now place one on the warm side, and one of the cool side.
