Sterilizing/Disinfecting Cage Items

So, I (well my snake techinically) am currently recovering from a bout of mites (used the Nix method, worked great), the cage currently only has paper towels as a substrate, his water bowl, and a tupperware hide box. When it comes time to add the substrate (aspen) and other cage items (a wooden hide and wooden climbing things), what is the best way to sterilize these things? I realize I can probably soak the furniture in a bleach solution, but what about the substrate? I've read you can microwave it, was just wondering what everyone here recommended. Thanks.

It's probably easier to just place it in a container in a preheated 250° oven for 30 minutes.

Be aware that snake mites live on snake blood. Without it they will starve and die. There is no reason to believe that there will be mites in the aspen bedding. I don’t think sterilizing the bedding is necessary.

Might not be necessary, but like I always say, a little insurance goes a long way. Peace of mind if nothing else.

I agree with Wade... For general sterilization purposes of the branch and hide, the oven method is effective. The aspen will not harbor mites, so it's just unnecessary overkill, no pun intended.
