Strange eggs

Yesterday my snow female laid 16 eggs + 1 slug (the most ive had so far!:D ). However, two of them are squishy and arent as firm as the others but they are white.

This may sound weird but it seems to me like they don't have the "outer shell" that gives the egg its structure if you know what I mean. It just feels like a membrane, if that makes any sense. I am going to check on them again today after my exam.

I don't think that they are slugs because they aren't yellow like the slug. I didn't want to throw them out so i just put them into the incubator with the rest. I'll try to post a pic of the clutch later on but I am in the process of moving and I don't have an internet connection yet. (I'm at school right now) Any info/thoughts would be hot.

my thoughts

I just got my first clutch today  so I dont' have the experience to give you a solid answer. However, I think sometimes eggs can be infertile without showing the yellowish coloration. I would just watch them to see if they go bad soon. I had a clutch of 30+ chameleon eggs once that appeared fertile to me (and should have been fertile) but all went bad in under a week. They were white but somewhat soft and Were kept in separate containers with 4 eggs each. Considering that, I would think I could rule out fungus, humidity problems, etc. I don't know though-hopefully someone with more experience can lend a hand. Good luck on your exam, I just got done with finals last week.

Interesting. Got any pictures? =P

In my experience with birds, I have seen most bird species sometimes lay an egg without the mineral shell. But with reptiles I assumed that since they lack the hard mineral shell, that something like that would be very rare..as the shells are actually the membrane on most avian eggs.

In birds all it is is a membranous sac of the egg contents. They generally go bad a few days into incubation for a variety of reasons.

do they look like this?

These are several of my 24 eggs that my hypo female laid about a week ago. Let me know what you all think.

Just throw them in the incubator and see.

In my experience they are fertile eggs and will hatch. I have had some that looks like the photos above and they did suceed in hatching too.

Good luck and hope to see some of your hatchlings pop out soon~

Congrats on the eggs!!

I don't mean to get off topic, but....

I noticed Charlie's eggs look pretty round. I was surprised how elongated mine were. Of course there were only 7 in this clutch since it's her first. Does anyone know if it's normal for the eggs to be so different in shape? I'm guessing it's just due to the clutch size, but thought I'd ask.

Kevin,

yours looks completely normal. Don't worry. I have seen some really weird looking eggs (ones with big like ping pong ball on one end and elongated on the other end and hatchlings still hatches out with perfect health...)

I get most of my eggs looking like yours. So no problem if you ask me~

Nice looking fertile eggs if you ask me~

Sorry it took me so long to reply

Hmm, They don't look like anything pictured. I mean, I can't see the veins through the shell, and none of them have "windows". What I have is really hard to describe, they look like normal eggs on the outside but they have no structure. And corncrazy they are normal sized but they are also slimy like they aren't retaining water. Although after I put them into the incubator one bloated up a little more but the other did not. But this was two days ago. Im going to go back to my parent's place check on them again today. Sorry I don't have a picture yet, Ill try to get one ASAP.

Think of a bag filled with water, this is kind of what they are like.

And Kevin, my snow laid four eggs last year that were elongated like that, it was her first time, they'll fill out as they get closer to hatching.

I took this pic of them today...they were drier today but still felt squishy. Also, they don't have those hairline cracks that the others do on the skin of the shell, they are just smooth.

Just keep them in the nest box and you'll find out in 60 days. But from what I think they should be fertile~~
