Substrate for hatchlings?

Hello!
Previously I kept my babies on paper towels but this year thought I'd give them something to burrow in - aspen shavings I have all my snakes on.
Someone saw the photo tho and said when they worked at petsmart they were told the shavings were too sharp for babies??

I've had my keepers and KSB babies on the stuff all year, haven't noticed any cuts or anything... what do you think? Too sharp? Should I switch back to paper towels??

Woops, I'll try again:

Sounds fishy to me.

I'm planning on keeping with paper towels for now cause it makes it easier for feeding. Of course, that depends on how many little ones you have.

I buy the aspen that's like shredded, not shaved like that, but I think they should be fine. I like the set up you have for them, is that a whole TP roll or a half?

cornsnakeforsale_com: For feeding this time I was going to add another deli cup and put pinkies inside it to make sure they aren't on the substrate, since I'm breeding less this year (but still, 35 eggs this clutch, another 15 incubating!)

K. Rene: Thanks! I'd like to get slightly bigger tubs at some point but these seem to work pretty well for now. Those are half paper towel tubes.
