Substrate mites?

Yea thats right...After moving the substrate out of the way so I can put in the water bowl I notice 4 - 5 little termite wannabes(full stop size.) running back to the substrate. I moved some more and looked with a magnifying glass and there was rather alot of the little buggers!

Ive since removed all the substrate, vacumed, washed and boiled the wooden hides and put newspaper in. I have ordered some aspen which should come next week sometime. I honestly dont know if these can affect my corn but I got rid of them anyway...the previous substrate was like dry compressed hay or something.

wow, i hope it won't affect your corn..

dry compressed hay? so it's looks like a pellet or like hay??

Hi i have had these for about a yr and a half know and they never go with substrate change (well not for me) they don't seem to cause my snake any problems. They don't seem to live on the snake or even go near him just in the substrate. I posted a thread when i first got them and nobody could tel me an answer so i don't know if anyone has been enlightened since.

according to my experience, if the storage for pellets is too humid, there gonna be a small animals, just like your...

you can put the pellets under the sunlight (in the afternoon), usually the small animals would go or die...

but i think it's better if you change the substrate :)

please CMiIW

thanks

little white scavenger mites?

these are a good sign that your substrate is too damp, too dirty (feces or other organic matter) and is lacking in proper ventilation
