does anyone know anything about crushed walnut shells as a substrate. I went to a reptile expo recently and was going to buy some more reptibark for my corns the guy in the booth showed me some stuff called reptile dessert blend and said it was good for corns. He sold reptibark as well and said this was better. I dont feed them in their cages

I remember hearing some bad things about walnut. I think it may be one of the substrates that causes impaction.

I dont feed them in their tanks i use a rubbermaid box for feeding do you think there is still a problem. The packaging says it doesent cause impaction but i want to make sure anyone else have an opinion

The thing that would make me rethink using it would be in the name: Reptile Desert Blend. Cornsnakes need and like some humidity in their environment. Desert substrates don't work well with humidity:) IMHO, of course.

As far as it being safe??? I have a friend that uses it for her Rosy Boa and is very happy with it.
