Switching Kingsnakes to F/T?

Hello everyone! I just acquired a male and female desert kingsnakes and the where eating live pinkies and cull corns. I was just wondering how to switch them over to F/T. Also my Brooksi female strike but doesn't stick and eat but she is transferred over to F/T any suggestion on that? Thanks for the help everyone!

Hey MtnMan,

I can only tell you what I did. I have a pair of 8 inch tweezers and I teased my splendida with a f/t pinky and he took it.

I got my pair of splendidaes from Don & Sally Shores at one of the reptile shows here in San Antonio in September. Sally told me and showed me were the male was only eating live and Don told me to just tease the little guy and he would eat f/t. I got home thawed a pinky and teased him and he took it with no problems. I had to tease him 2 or 3 more times and know I just drop him into the feeding tub with the f/t pinkies and get the lid on fast because he is in feeding mode.

Hope this helps...............and Splendida Rule

Given kings appetites, I doubt it will take much effort -- do the zombie mouse dance a few times and after that, just throw it in! LOL! My Cali kings think they can eat my arm, they strike at it & get frustrated they can't advance their jaws, and will eat anything offered, even if it isn't warm. So they often get snacks if a pink is refused, I don't even reheat, I just put it on a paper plate & put it in the viv.

Hey wstphal,

I see you do the same thing I do. All Cali Kings need to be able to do is get their mouth around the food. I some times wonder if I even need to defrost the mouse. Never tried and never will but I do wonder.

Definitely try tease feeding. It probably wouldn't hurt to rub one of your corns against a pinky if you feel you should try scenting with something. :roflmao:

My guess is that they would eat the frozen mouse then go lie on the UTH to warm it up for digestion! LOL. I wouldn't try it, but that's what I'd expect given their appetites. They go psycho when I cook too, like they think they want hamburgers or chicken. Then again, they probably would eat those if offered!
