i have a 55 gallon tank i want to divide down the center. has anyone tried to make one? any tips? also i found one at a local pet store but i believe its made of clear screen. is this only for fish?

Yes I done it, works too if you figure the cut right where it come to play against the screen lid. I silicone mine in place and held it in place with tape til it dried. you might have to use extra clips to hold the lid down to help prevent the snake from pushing over to the other side but I also use a light there to which helps.
Can ya understand all that?? LOL
 
I used 1/4"" ...ahhh... I forget what they call it but it's the brown peg board stuff without the holes. LOL.
