Last weekend i set up a vivarium for a hatchling Amel (approx 14").
I`ve spent the week playing with settings and found the cool end of the tank hovers at 75deg through the day, dropping to 60deg overnight.
This is achieved by a 60w heatlamp at one end running through the day and evening and a undertank heatmat directly under the lamp running 24 hours. the tank`s rears are insulated with polystyrene tiles - front and sides are glass.
Now this i`m happy with but i`ve struck a problem.. the pilot light on my central heating boiler has died meaning no heating and ambient room temps in the low 50`s - this of course has had the effect of knocking 10 degrees off the tank temp .... this should be sorted within a few days but in order to maintain the temps should i go upto a 100w bulb? maybe put the 60w in overnight?
i guess tonight the tank temp will be lower than 60 all round with only the heatmat...
i HAVE to do something `cos my hatchling is due to arrive tomorrow!
many thanks in advance
