The hide log of horrors, part 2!

Well, eff this $40 Pet Smart bonsai hide, in particular! I was looking at the hole thinking of hot-gluing it shut, but Venus got there first. :p I left her mouse on top of her cave, and turned off the lights, hoping she will smell it and come out. Then... the hot glue gun!

I've admired those bonsai trees for a while. Guess I won't be getting one after all!

At least you know she hasn't escaped.

I waited up late and snuck up on her and she was most of the way out. I got her out and confiscated her bonsai until I can glue it shut! It's a nice hide otherwise, I just hope others will see that it needs work before they have to sit up all night to get their snake back, like me.

Are you kidding me?! I finally got tired of having to tickle my girl out of the original hide log of horror (with the offending branch tip sawed off so that I could at least always see if she was in there, and reach her with a fingertip) so I *JUST* went out and bought this one yesterday. All proud of myself, until I see this post. Ugh!! Well, one thing I have learned is that if I take nippers and nip off all of the flat section from the bottom, then sand the rough/sharp edges, it gives the snake a lot less lip to wedge themselves into, and thus allows the hide to be lifted right off of them... at least that has worked with some of my other hides. So I haven't given this hide to anyone yet because it is still waiting to be sanded, but I'm hoping I haven't just recreated exactly the same problem I was trying to get away from! I guess I'll be letting you know if it works. But thanks for the warning. :)

Albertagirl - the exact bonsai I bought is very smooth/rounded all along underneath which is part of what I liked about it. It looks like there's a lip in the photo but it's just where the paint ends. I glued a piece of plastic over the big hole and glued the little holes shut too just because I was paranoid. Should be good to go now!

Now that I look at it again, mine doesn't have a second opening either. Just one big one. Maybe it's not the same one after all. I must have seen "bonsai" after I just bought one and panicked I guess.
