Thermometer/ Hygrometer ?!?!

Ok. So I just bought an Exo Terra brand hygrometer dial. Stop me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure it's a piece of crap. It doesn't seem to be monitoring humidity very well. Any thoughts on it's effectiveness?

I'm thinking about buying a better thermometer with a probe because all I have right now is an Exo Terra brand stick on and I'm pretty sure those suck as well and only measure ambient air temps. Can anyone recommend a thermometer with a hygrometer built in and a probe that I can order off the internet for a pretty reasonable price? Any help would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance! :D

digital ones are the best i've heard on these forums i bought an critter hygro one or something its dial though so im affraid i might have to gout out and get 2 digi 1 therm and one hygro

I got some of the zoomed dual analog thermometer/hygrometers and was having the same problem. Temps registered okay, but humidity was all over the place.

I contacted the retailer (on-line). They actually contacted the manufacturer and referred me. It seems the analogs have to be calibrated. Set the gauge in a place where the temp/humidity values are known.

Wait until the dials register (30 mins is the recommended, I believe). The red pointer is attached to the plastic dome cover. The numbered gradient is on the background piece. I had to twist the dome until the red indicator was pointed at the number on the dial-background. The twisting is really hard, but do-able.

Once I did that, the analog is within a couple of points on humidity now. I hope you find this useful. If not, try contacting the maker of your gauge. Maybe there's a difference.

Good luck!
