Okay here is the story (sorry for my english, I'm from germany)

I got a cornsnake in 2014 (I think with his lengh to this point he would be born around 2011). The former keepers wanted the room frrom the tank for a birdcage :smash: well i didn't agrue, i got the Snake with tank and everyting for free.

He had a 120 x 60 x 60 cm thank without an wetbox but 60W heatlamp PLUS 25 W heat cable going on full power, They feed an weanling mouse every 2 weeks...you can imagine he was a little triangual. (took 3 sheds till he finally shed in one piece)
I got to a weekly feeding for the first months and then tryied out many diffrent animals to feed him with since i wanted to breed the feeders myself, depending on the meal size he only got every 2 to 4 weeks a meal.

In the first winter he got into hibernation by himself (didnt want to eat and was happy in his hide) after comming out hibernation in 2015 he took one campbells dwarfhamster, got into 'Lovemaking' (is it called heat in snakes too?) and refused to eat till autum. Not a problem he wasn't getting thinner. (didnt have a scale back then.) Autum he took again a dwarfhamster and after that got to hibernation again. He got out of this last week (fotos of him bathing and being active down there) got a weanling mice and i finally got to weight him yesterday.
Call me shocked, he is about 1038g with 135 cm lengh (54 inches).

Is he too fat? With only 2 times eating last year? hows that possible...:sidestep:
If he rally is to fat i don't now what to do, he'll only get mice in the future...

I don't think he looks fat at all. He's just a big "Healthy" corn snake. I have heard of them that big before, but most of the time they are a bit smaller.

A snake that size should be eating a full grown mouse (30 grams) about every 10 to 14 days.

They don't have to "Hibernate" but it's ok if you want them to. That's why he only ate 2 times and didn't lose weight. (Or maybe he did lose some weight and you just don't know?)

If it was my snake, I'd feed it according to the schedule, handle it regularly so it gets plenty of exercise and I probably would Not allow it to hibernate, but keep its Light and Temps regulated.

It's a pretty snake. Good luck with it.

The thing is that the room he and my 2 yea old one (160g) are in will drop to 10-15°C in winter (thats my bedroom)
Even when he has a forex tank and i put a lot of heating in it he still thinks hibernation is better (Its not like I diddn't try for him to stay awake, its a little lonly for me...)
Well lets see how he eats this year, if i want to stick to the plan he should get the second meal in a few days.
Should i keep it at hopper to weanling size (15 to 25g from my fancys) or an adultsized Mouse (30 to 50g)?

For the future I want to build an really large Tank in my living room, we'll see if he still wants to hibernate there.

A "Weanling" is too small for that snake unless it's a big one.
I'd try to find mice that weigh around 30 grams, or maybe baby rats that are the same weight.

Jup then it is an young adult mice for him.
(Or the Hamsters they have 50g when old and about 30g to 40g when young.)
I breed fancys that are lot bigger then normal feeder Mice. My tinyest female that i had in the beginning was 30g, now they all execeed 50g

One of my biggest females, she has 68g, her son is 56g.

Some people feed about 12% of the (Snake's Weight) every 2 weeks.

So you could think of it this way - 2 mice every 2 weeks, or 1 mouse each week.

The mouse of the Foto is alive and well she should drop a litter in a few days XD

One of the Males that did his duty was the snake - äh cat- food ;)
