Transport

Hey guys,

I have a quick question about transporting Hydra! He's about three foot now if that helps. I'm going to a reptile specialist store at the weekend to get him a new and bigger tank, and they've offered to give him a free health check if I take him along (they're not vets or medically trained but have kept and bred snakes for years and are very knowledgeable). But I'm not sure the best way to transport him? I have a lightweight tank with locking lid that I use when his tanks getting cleaned, so would that be suitable? I could also put him in a pillowcase which I've seen recommended, would that be better? It's only a half hour drive each way and then I'll probably be half an hour in the shop.

Any advice is appreciated and thanks in advance [emoji4]

I use a top-locking plastic bin (about 2 feet by 1 feet by 1 feet) for my almost 5ft long snake. You can put holes in the top - using a soldering iron is best to ensure there are no rough edges.

I line the bottoms with several layers of paper towel. Rip up some loose papertowels for ground coverage and stick a cardboard box for her to hide in if she wants. If we are going to the vet and there are other animals in the waiting room or just other people, I cover up the sides with a towel to lower stress levels. To me, this feels more secure than a pillowcase and guards against bumps.

Hope it all goes well!

I have a snake bag, it's a cloth bag with draw string top, like you see the snake catchers on TV use. I usually put Rufus in the bag and then just set the bag on the seat next to me. Depending on where I'm going, sometimes I just wrap him around my neck and then take off down the road. He's not at all a "Roamer" so he usually sits there pretty quietly while we drive. But I always carry the snake bag with me in case he starts acting up.

Might look into getting a snake bag for next time I have to take him anywhere, would be easier I think. Can't put him around my neck, he wants to explore everything [emoji14] think I'll probably put him in his temporary tank for this trip and make sure he has a hide so he doesn't feel too exposed. Thank you both [emoji4]
