trap ideas... lost snake

nick f

Gota love em
My cousin bought a snake a week ago and lost him 3 days ago.
One day she looked in his cage and he was gone. I've heard ideas for traps for lost snakes do u have any?

You could try puting a heat mat somewhere around the edge of the room & cover it with a couple of rags & he might go to the heat & hide there....maybe even place a thawed pinkie in there as well....

I have (or don't have) a lost snake as well. As soon as I discovered he was gone I set bottle traps all over the house. Some had nasty smelly mouse bedding from the "feeder breeder" and 2 had live pinkies that have since died so I replaced them with f/t. Set water dishes along the walls, heat mats in various locations, took apart the frig/entertainment center, tore apart the closets etc. NO LUCK! I think he may have gone down the vent. Hopefully he is brumating in the basement. I think today I will ask my neighbors if they find a snake DON'T take a shovel to it! If you find your friend please let me know how you did. Good Luck to you!

I'm sorry i don't have any ideas for getting your snake back, but i pretty much agree with what bribrian & rorryy have said.

I hope your cousin does eventually find his snake, and that he is in good condition. Keep us updated, good luck.

my cousin found her snake 1 floor below her room just crawling around she found him today before i got on so she couldn't use any of your traps but thanks any way...... how does a bottle trap work???? :shrugs:

I lost mine and he was gone for ages. I had just replaced him when 10 days later my mum found him in the compost heap. That was three months later.

There are several methods for attempting to recover a lost snake...

I have lost two snakes in the time I have owned them...and tried most of the tricks...and actually found both snakes without the help of any tricks...

Flour on the floors across doorways can show you if your snake is crossing from one room into another...

Get some MASKING TAPE or TWO SIDED Masking Tape...and make sticky traps along the edges of walls...this is the most probable place for your snake to travel...put the masking tape sticky side up on the floor against the wall...with the ends rolled under so they stick to the floor...

The bottle traps...hmmm...there is a good picture description SOMEWHERE...but more or less you cut the top off a two liter bottle at the WIDEST point of the bottle, just below the bend (so you create a FUNNEL more or less) then INVERT that part into the remainder of the bottle...and tape it shut...putting some used mouse bedding (be sure it isn't cedar) or a pinky mouse into the bottle before you close it helps....place it along the edge of a wall...or somewhere you think the snake may be travelling...

They say glue traps work as well...but may be harder to remove your snake undamaged from one...although I believe they come off with a generous dousing in vegetable oil.

10 days or 3 months lol...

I know this probably sounds silly but double check your cage. Snakes love to hide, and I've near lost it over false alarms several times. Good luck to you..everytime i lost and recovered a snake it was by pure chance I found them...never seemed to have luck with traps. Check closet floors, under furniture, around furniture, baseboards, if you have a northern home with floor vents for heating..there u go. Basically EVERYTHING in your house is a possible hide for a snake, have fun systematically tearing rooms apart to no avail.
