I was just curious if anyone else's corn builds tunnels. Jake seems to thrive on his sub-terrian world. He builds tunnels and keeps them up. All his hides have entrances and secret exits to his tunnels. He will come out and cruise, and drop down one hole and show up at another. It really amazes me. He seems to know the total layout of his tunnels and maintains them. If it matters, he is a reverse okatee. I know there was a thread or more about characteristics of morphs. All his little escape holes are perfectly round. I am giving credit for intelligence I never thought possible for a snake. I am impressed.

My snakes don't tunnel. They all love their ugly, overturned shallow "V", cardboard hides. These hides are one piece that cover the entire length of the tub, hot side to cold. It's good for me because I never have to go digging through aspen to get them. They're always right under the hide (unless they're already cruising).

But it's pretty cool that your corn maintains semi-permanent tunnels.

Yeah, my goy does that, too. Lately he's been hanging out in his rock-hide, but occasioanly he's under the aspen. Still havn't seem any snake...waste..anywhere. We're cleaning the whole viv next week.

My snow really likes tunneling. She seems to use the same ones over and over. If you look in the viv you can see the holes dotting the top of the aspen where she comes and goes. Though, she only uses them at night when she is cruising around. During the day she stays in her hide all the time.

yeah Mine makes tunnels too. and If I mess them up.. (or.. Clean the viv) it pisses her off and the first thing she does is re make all the tunnels in the same place.

I have two hatchlings in side by side tanks at the moment.

One is a tunneller, and in a glass viv so I can see the ones at the front.

The other is climber and will slither up anything that offers even a slight chance of getting to the top of the viv. Never seems to tunnel though.

Funny how they're so different.

The tunneller is by far and away the more skittish of the two when it comes to handling .......

Energi2er......it pisses my snake off also when I clean the viv and wreck his tunnel system. And he immediately rebuilds them in the same places they were before......thanks to you all for your replies.....

yup all my hatchlings are tunnelers... i have one set up where i can ee underneath the glass so i see all the tunnels... and when i want to get her out i look for her underneath the tank... she is so cute

All three of my snakes are tunnelers, when they were in smaller cages (03 and 04) i would just lift it up to see where they were. Now i just carefully uncover all of the hills, luckly i can still find my 05 by lifting up her cage

ha ha, i just noticed that mine makes perfectly round tunnels in the aspen.. and i can see them from the side... ive never seen him in them though.. weird he still likes to use his hide boxes.

my amel actually has a "cave" like thing IN her hide, and then other tunnels take her out of it to her water bowl, and to her other hide and to her plant and vine, this is all under the aspen.

ok, since this thread is all about tunnels, i think i would be appropriate to show a picture. This is one of the many tunnel entrances my amel has, as you can see she hangin out in her kleenex box in the picture..enjoy, John
