Under Tank Heater, question before setup.

Hey guys I just bought my under tank heater and rheostat. I know how to set it up and I have rubber stands to place the tank on. But my question is, is it ok to just have the tank on the floor propped up a bit if there is carpet? Will any part of the uth cause a fire hazard if setup like that? Just curious before I setup my new 20 gallon. I also bought a digital thermometer and probe so I can keep my eye on temps. Another question about temps though. Can I just lay the probe on the glass, or is that not accurate? Does the tip need to be glued to the bottom of the tank or will it read fine just laying there? Any help would be appreciated.

Ps: I use newspaper for bedding so I can't bury it in the substrate.

If the temperature is moderated with a rheostat, it won't be a fire hazard. If it's not hot enough to burn your corn it's certainly not hot enough to be a fire hazard. The probe doesn't need to be glued down unless you want it to - I like to have the ability to move my probe and get readings for different areas of the tank.

Hope that helps.

The probe lying on the bottom under the newspaper should be just fine.

Thanks guys, you were right. I just gave a little slack and put the probe under the paper. Let the rheostat sit with the heater for 6 hours. Adjusted temps and I am at 86 right now. Tying to get it down to 85 but seems to be fine. So yup good deal. Didn't need the glue and I actually found a space on one of our foldup tables removed some things and made it specifically for the addition of our new tank. Looking good. I'll post pics tommorrow or Sunday some time for everyone to see. Raydin ate fine and explored his viv for quite a while. He knows where the water bowl is, hes climbing the vines and artificial ivy and he's found his hides. So all and all a good day here. Thanks for the advice on the heating situation, not too many people were responding today when I tried posting in other areas so I'm glad you guys gave your input, it really helped. Later.
