can wallpaper be made use of in the viv???

on the floor? as background?

is there any reason it should NOT be used?
is there any kind that should NOT be used?

all help appreciated

thank you

There maybe chemicals in the Fresco blown viynall (can't spell it!) paper but I dont know if they could be dangerous?

I would be wary of any paper that had an adhesive backer (even an inert backer). The chemicals in the adhesive would probably not be good for your snake. Not to mention that if there were a spill an inert adhesive could be "activated" and have your pet stuck to it.....

If you use the adhesive and put the background/Vinyl on the exterior of the habitat then it wouldn't bother the snakes. Except the variances in color whenever you use an emense amount of humidaty like during a shedding process. :santa:

hi :wavey:

the new viv is 48"x18x18" and is solid except for vents and sliding glass door front.

as the 'wood' is quite dark I want to lighten it up.......any ideas???

thanx

Marg,

Why not get some of the backing used for fish tanks? I know I've seen jungle/tropical/desert style ones as well, usually on the back side of a more aquatic looking print. :) You'll find that stuff in big rolls in the fish section of a pet store, such as Petsmart. It's cheap enough, too. They cut it to fit for you.

We have rolls of it laying around from various fish tanks here... in fact, I still have one stuck to the back of the tank I'll be using for my baby snake. It's on the outside, but there should be no reason you can't secure the stuff to the inside of your enclosure.

Hope that helps!

Edit: Oops, you're in the UK. I'm sure they have something similar over there, though? It's worth checking for, anyway. :)

thanx for the info......what would i use to stick it on the inside of the tank??

i'm a bit wary of 'sticky stuff' on the inside..

also is ordinary candlewax safe to use in the viv....? ( I want to block up some holes in a fish tank ornament) not beeswax

thank you

What to use to stick it on? Hrm... I would imagine double-sided sticky tape should be fine since it will be covered. You'd probably want to seal the background on from the bottom of it as well as the sides though, so the snake doesn't try to get behind it. Not sure if it would, but you never know!

As for sealing up holes, go to the fish section for that, too. ;) They sell silicone sealant to fix tanks and glue together rocks and such for displays in fish aquariums. Once it cures it's completely safe, though it does smell awfully strong of vinegar while it's curing! I've used it before in repairs, and it's easy enough to work with. Just fill up the hole with it, let sit for several days to thoroughly dry, and it should be fine. Unless someone with more snake knowledge would know a reason it might harm a snake? Can't imagine it would, since it's safe for fish once dry. Would seem to be a better choice than wax, though.

For the matter, you might also use the sealant to secure the background, too. It would be a bit harder to remove later if you wanted to, but you could.

Most of those wall papers made for aquariums are used on the outside of the tank. You get the face of the background damp just enough and then stick it to the outside of the back glass wall with the picture on the front. Then just squeeze the airholes out and it should stay there.
