UTH help

Im gettin a 30 gallon tank and a Zoomed UTH (10-20 gal sized) with a zoomed rheostat. I live in the valley and the temps are pretty high so im only planning to turn on the UTH only during the winter. But during the summer i might turn it on slightly (using the rheostat) to ceate a temperature gradient. my question is - will i need to put a tile between the tank and the UTH ? or will i need to put something (bottlecaps?) to prevent contact between the UTH and the aquarium stand? (but the UTH comes with these little risers designed for that, so can i uses those instead??

I have the same setup that you have. At first I used a tile between the aquarium and the UTH. I could get the rigth temps, what I did was put the UTH direct on the aquarium and I eleveted the aquarium using peaces of wood to avoid contact w/ the stand and avoid risk of fire.
I can tell you that I am having no problems at all.

Scorpionking,

I noticed that you have a hypo okeetee, you don't happen to have any photos of it when it was a hatchling etc, my hatchling male is a snow x hypo okeetee and it looks like it may be exhibiting like the father. Do you have any ventral shots as well?
Thanks
TIna
