UTH - Thermostat question

I'm using a UTH mounted to the bottom of my enclosure run through a thermostat controller. My question is where should the probe go. I use aspen bedding (about and 1 1/2" or so). I understand that the warm side should run about 85 degrees. If my probe sits on top of the bedding to maintain 85 degrees in and around the warm side hide, the heat under the bedding against the glass bottom easily gets 10 degrees or so warmer. If I put the probe directly against the glass and set to 85, the hide and the top of the bedding on the warm side won't climb above 75. Any helpful opinions?
 
It's recommended to put the probes from the thermostat and thermometer directly on the glass above the heat mat, as this will be the hottest place your corn can get to. If they feel the temp on top of the substrate isn't warm enough, most have the sense to burrow down to the heat, well mine do anyway :)
 
The probe should go on the glass because your snake burrows. If you put the probe on top of your bedding and set it to 85 then the glass will easily reach 95 which will burn your snake. Don't worry about the temperature on the top of the bedding your snake will find where he/she will be comfortable
