UTH

Hey, everyone
I have seen people mention a type of foil or tape they wrap the UTH in. I was just wondering why this is. I think it's so they can reuse the mat without using the adhesive strips on the mat, but I'm not sure. So I was just wondering what it is and where I could find it. And also any suggestions for what I could use as spacers to lift my tank a tad bit for the UTH. thank you all in advance.

I think you got that right. So it can be removed and reused without damage.
For spacers, I buy little rubber stick-on feet at the hardware store. They work great until you have 3 or 4 cages stacked on top of each other. Then they start to squoosh flat like pancakes. But for just one or two cages... no problem.

I wrap the UTH in aluminum foil and tape it to the tank using aluminum tape (from any home improvement store). This way if I have a heater fails on me, which happens, I can easily remove it from the tank for replacement.

I am housing Atlas in a 40gal and did not feel the tiny feet that were included wer secure enough for the weight of the tank. So my boyfriend came up with the idea to use rubber tub drain rings. They raise the tank up off my dresser for better air flow.

There are so many great DIY tank ideas in this forum!

Most of us wrap the heat pad in aluminum foil, and then use the foil tape to tape the pad to the bottom of the tank. By doing that you don't have to use the adhesive on the pad and you can easily remove the pad and use it again on another tank if you need to.

Thank you I just wasn't sure if I should use the pad with the plastic still on the pad.

Yeah if you use the adhesive on the pad, then it's hard to peel it off if you need to and a lot of times you'll damage the pad if you try. Using aluminum foil and foil tape allows you to use the same pad over and over again.
