Vacation?

Tennessee

Do you need take any extra precautions when going on vacation for a week or so? My biggest fear would be leaving the heat pad unattended for so long ( it getting too hot, fires starting etc..........)?

Don't worry about the heat pad. It supposedly stays at the same temperature all the time. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with their heat pad where something (besides the snake if it comes into direct contact with it if it's too hot) was damaged. If you have a thermostat set to the good temperature for a corn snake (~85F), you can be sure that the temperature will not change.

If you really live in Tennessee, as your user name implies, you can just unplug it when you leave. Feed your snake a few days before you leave so it will have time to digest, then unplug the heat pad.

Your biggest concern would be the snake having enough water. I'd recommend you put an extra water bowl in there, just to be on the safe side.

Safest thing is to have someone pop in at least once while you are gone to check on them, because a snake will defecate in it's water bowl, and you don't want it drinking that for a week do you? :puke01:

ya id say just unplug the heatpad if it stays room temp in your house, and give it extra..or two water bowls and it will be fine

im going on a cruise and this is exciting news taht i can leave him home but i need to know about the water situation because what if he poops in it or somthing please respond

incase you were wondering i wasnt planing to take the snake on the cruise i was ogign to haev a friend watch it for me but i was worried because he owns cats and id rather leave him at home

For starters, I always go on holiday in the winter. Mine feed every three-four weeks then, so they don't mind if I'm not around with food. I make sure they've all pooped before I go, so there's no spot cleaning to do.

I'm lucky enough to have a mother who loves snakes and she drops by twice a week to check/change water.

Any that are not in a condition to have reduced feeding will go to "boarding kennels" at my local reptile shop for £5 per animal per week.

An unattended heatmat can overheat if it goes wrong (I've had it happen) so I would always recommend using them with a thermostat, which should prevent accidents. As I'm in the UK, leaving the heatmat off would only be an option for about three weeks a year!
