Ventral Question

Hi all,

I'm have a question that may seem very dumb but I am curious so I'm going to ask.

Do normals always have checked ventrals? Do striped normals? Or do striped normals always have clear ventrals? Am I using the right word for bellys?

I'm asking because one of our cornsnakes is a striped normal, but his belly is not checked it's clear? So is he really a striped normal or is he striped something else? :shrugs:

Thanks a bunch!

Normals have checkerd ventrals. Stripes have clear ventrals. A Normal colored stripe has a clear ventral.

I can see where the confusion lies, a true normal is not a stripe but a stripe can be normal colored.

Does that make sense?

Okay Clint,

Let me see if I've got this right.

My striped corn is a striped with normal-coloring, but is not really a normal cause he's a striped.

So in reality, should just be called a striped corn rather than a normal striped corn?

I think I've got it! :crazy02:

Thanks!

Well, to keep things simple, you should probably continue calling it a normal striped. There are many colors of striped corns, and by calling it a normal striped you are describing the color and the pattern. People will be able to picture the morph you are talking about. If you just said it was a striped corn, then I personally would be wondering what color it is. By saying "normal striped," I know what color it is.

I agree with Terri, I'd still call it a normal colored Stripe. It sounds like you have it down though.

Stripe is a pattern mutation, it only changes the pattern. 'Technically' it is no longer a normal (normal meaning without mutation).
