My male snake seems to be very agitated at the moment, i have never seen him like this before. I moved both my viv's to another room a couple of weeks ago because i was having trouble regulating the temperatures due to this bad winter. Neither of them seem to be bothered with the change of room and remained very settled.

Sid, my male has since refused to eat. He normally eats every two weeks (this has always been his eating regime), he won't feed every week.
He shed this Tuesday so i offered him his large mouse, he refused so i tried him with a chick (they both enjoy these as a treat sometimes) he still refused.
I know corn's can go quite a while without food so I'm not too worried. It's his behaviour that is puzzling me. Everytime i open his viv he rattles his tail at me (he has always rattled but not everytime i go near him)
He is constantly on the move and keeps tipping his hide over. He used to sleep most of the day and come to life at night but now he never stays still.

I picked him up earlier so i could check him over and he jumped when i touched him, very odd.

Has this got anything to do with the mating season? i was not planning on mating them until the end of April like i normally do. just a thought!

I must confess he is worrying me

Has anyone got any advice or experienced anything like this?

Ok,well.... i personally never had this personally before, until this year. I would almost positivly say that he senses the females pharemones. You may try puting them in seperate rooms, or just wait till the season passes.

Thanks for that john, i think you may be right. He seems a little more settled today but i'm rearranging things so i can move him to another room.

Thanks again

Even if a male Corn is on his own in a house, he can still tell what season it is and feel the urge to mate. The constant patrolling, change in temperament and food refusal that you've seen are all classic signs that his sap is rising.

He should get back to normal in a couple of months, so hang in there. Treat him kindly in the meantime - we all know how antsy the males in our life can be when they ain't gettin' what they want!

Thanks bitsy i appreciate that. YES we certainly know what males are like

oops hope this doesn't start something now :)
