I agree with Whiffin, but I just want to add to it. You should ALWAYS make sure there's a vet in your area (or within reasonable driving distance) that can, will, and knows HOW to correctly care for any problems that may arise with your animal(s), BEFORE you purchase that/those animal(s)!
It may be something as "simple" as coccidea or pinworms, but if you're stuck with the adenovirus, internal fungus or prolapses that require surgery (as we recently did with one of our bearded dragons), you're screwed without a good vet.
We made that mistake and lost two VERY healthy, VERY happy lil beardies to an internal fungus. The first was misdiagnosed, mistreated and was basically overdosed & killed by the vet. The next day we took the other to another vet, who REALLY does know his stuff, but it was too late. He was already too far gone to be brought back to health.
Aside from the monetary costs for the animals (approx $350 total for the two), and the vet's bills (total about $1,000), it was losing the animals that hurt more than the dent in the bank account.
Now we've got two vets within 45-60 minutes driving distance that are both EXCELLENT vets. One helped Myst about 5 weeks ago and had a colonic prolapse which required surgery. She didn't eat for about a week after the prolapse, but 5 days after the stitches came out, she started eating like a horse. She's just over DOUBLED in weight in the last 3 weeks (and she's 6 months old!).
