vicious...

norbert03

norbert and aelfric
this never happened before.

norbert was really quite violent with me last night before her feeding. she curled up and tried to bite me everytime i got within five inches of her. i couldn't calm her. i wasn't intimidated, i kept going for her, but it just got too hard and i could tell she was stressed. i fed her a mouse on a paper towel in the enclosure and monitored her the entire time. my hands were cleaned after preparing the food so i didn't smell like a mouse.

she's handled twice a week, fed every four days, one f/t fuzzie. she had been in hunt mode when i got home from work, could hunger have made her turn nasty? will she change back to her kind, feminine, docile self...?

Who knows?

I have one who turns into a psycho lunatic sometimes, and there is no rhyme or reason to it. The only advice I could give you is to stand your ground so she doesn't think that acting like that gets her anything (like a child throwing a tantrum). My guess is she probably will be herself after she digests, but if she keeps it up you might want to re-check your husbandry and/or get her checked for health problems.

I wouldn't say it was because she was hungry, not if you feed every 4 days. A couple of months ago my snake (slither) went a bit mad too, not towards me but went crazy as in very very fast movement darting here and there, all around my room.(lucky my door was shut, I live in a converted garage!) Ive never seen her do it since. She wouldn't let me go near her, but in the end I got her and the next day she was back to normal, handling really well. Hope she's calmed down for you. ( must be a feminine thing eh?) (hehe your probably not laughing are you? ;)

yea...maybe it's just...

a female thing. i'll try again in a few days.

Ever since that cat took up the fiddle that cows been- jumping
The dish and the spoon were evicted from the table and eloped
She's had trouble with the milk and the moon ever since
Maybe its a... female thing

Once in awhile Legoless gets in a bit of a snit too...a little more animated and snippy until he gets a good sniff that it's me. That usually mellows him out some. I've had to reach to pick him up from behind (so I'm not reaching at his face) when he gets that way...that seems to help.

Everything has their off days, even snakes. Even if you didnt peronally smell like a mouse, she could probably smell it in the air, and with the sudden movement of you hand it could of just sparked a natural instinct of hers, especially if she was hunting and knew it was comming.
