Vomiting?

Hey everyone,

My snake ate on Thursday evening (7/28) and as I was handling her today, she threw up a nice sized pile of fur and general throw up-y material. She was in blue when she took the mouse on Thursday and vomited after shedding. I'm a relatively new snake momma and a lot of the stuff I've looked at suggests stress/bad husbandry/sickness to cause vomit. Could she have been stressed from being handled after not having been touched for a week or so, or am I looking at a potentially serious problem? She's been seen by the vet recently due to a problem with scarring on her vent and I'm also starting to worry that she might be constipated or something.

P.S. Like the paranoid momma I am, I've messaged her vet as well; I just wanted to see if anyone had anything else useful

Some corns do not take well to eating while in shed - I've known several people report a regurge after eating while in blue, so even though some seem to be able to handle it just fine, others may find it leads to an upset stomach.

If this is a one off, I personally would just check all husbandry parameters (temps, water cleanliness/availability, shelter availability) and otherwise make a note not to feed in shed again. If it becomes a recurring problem not traceable to shedding, then more action should be taken.

Hiya there bebop! Sorry your little sneaky one is under the weather! That just sux & blows simultaneously!!!

A regurge is a potentially life-altering event for a snake and you are not being paranoid at all! A good reptile vet is NEVER a wasted call after such an incident!

You may be right about your snake regurging due to having a meal while in blue, but there may be contributing or exacerbating factors, such as inadequate temps, a bad rodent, or something else wrong in the environment or within the health of the snake. Therefore, there are other questions you might like to answer while waiting for someone who is more experienced than I am or someone who might pick up something I'm unable to.

For example: How old is your snake? Did it ever regurgitate a meal before? Is your snake the only one in its enclosure? Is it being fed live or f/t'd rodents? Did you handle it prior to today after it ate on 7/28?

In the meantime, there is a link to a regurge protocol, as per Dollysmom's instructions to someone else who had similar problems and is written as follows:

Scroll down this thread for Kathy Love's regurge protocol:

Good luck and please keep us updated!!!!! (Oh! And of course, THANX Kathy & Dollysmom!!!)
