Weird Corn

ClickClickClickBOOM!

The Maddest Hatter
I have a yearling Male Amel corn snake, there is nothing wrong with him. He perfectly happy being handled by me...and ME alone. When ever anyone else picks him up and handles him...he FREAKS. As soon as I take him from them he calms down instantly. Can he really tell the difference between me and somebody else? Anyone have any idea why he freaks out?

I think that owners learn how their animals like to be handled, touched, etc. For instance, handling a baby corn requires a lot of tender, gentle movements that takes some practice. Animals also come to associate the smell of the individual who handles them most with security, I'd imagine.

MOST corns don't particularly like or dislike being held (MOST); they just tolerate it.

I agree completely with window, not everyone knows how to handle the snake like the owner. And since snakes rely mostly on their sense of smell, not vision or hearing, it seems logical that they recognize their owners scent.

The scents on other people might freak him out, if they have pets ect. Have them wear one of your sweatshirts or something and see what happens. I usually have my friends wash their hands before they touch my snakes, you might try that.
