I was just curious as to who can identify what this picture is? When some of my friends saw it on my laptop they had no idea. I thought they were more common but I guess not

That is one of those holes in a cow so you can get into the stomach.

When I was a little kid they had one at the Wisconsin state fair and my Dad held me up to get a better look....well, the stupid cow coughed and out came a bunch of stuff....all over me!

Ye sit is a hole in the cow to see its insides. It called a fistulated cow. THe original was just a fluke birth anomaly at Cornell, and now most research vet schools have them. It is pretty neat, but the smell can be a little overwhelming.

i don't mean to start off a big argument whether its write or wrong but doesn't it make the cow more susceptible to infections?

It is possible, but the area is healed before they get the stopper and the cows get the best daily treatments to keep them healthy.

It's probably not too much different than a hookup site for a human colostomy bag. :shrugs: Interesting for sure . . . I'd probably raise an eyebrow or two seeing the pic on a friend's laptop!!
