what does everybody use?

Hey guy's I am getting a new corn soon and I kind of have a question about the heating. What does everyone use as far as UTH or a Ceramic heat emitter. Also can you recommend something i can use to adjust the heat to go off it it gets to hot or come on if it's to cold? Thanks!

I use UTHs and they've done me good service over the years. Belly heat is good for Corns as they need it for digestion, but I know some folks use overhead heat sources successfully.

The other bit of kit you're talking about is a thermostat which you'll need with any heat source and there are several makes/models. I'll leave other to advise as I'm the wrong side of the Atlantic and I'm not familiar with US equipment and availability.

i have just learned about the thermostat too so i am going to pick one up with the next paycheck, i don't remember where they said to get them but i think PetCo or PetSmart has them...

The funny thing is, it has never seemed to bother my snake so i didn't think anything of it...

If he's hot, he went to the cold side and if he's cold, he goes to the hot side... but better safe than snakeless...

I found that ceramic heaters get extremely hot, even on a proportional thermostat. They usually have to be enclosed in a cage of their own.

Bottom heat is usually the easiest to control in an aquarium or rack system. If you have a large display cage, then one of the new type of radiant heat panels work great from above. They are best for snakes that like to climb.

is it recommended to use a thermostat for a UTH? iv got 3 and none of them have a thermostat
The ones I've run in test setups have reached up to 120 degrees, so I'd say yes. A Corn's safe maximum is in the high 80s.

I use a rheostat with my UTHs. Unregulated, one maxes out at 140, one at 114 and the other at 95. I have two on an zoo-med repti-temp rheostat. The third one is a different brand and seems to regulate differently, so I have it controlled by a homemade rheostat independently.

I have never used the CHEs for my snakes. I do use them in my bearded dragon tanks in the wintertime though. They'll bring the ambient temperature in a 6ft long aquarium up to 80º from the mid-50s.

You can order the thermostats online cheaper than Petco/Petsmart even with shipping cost. We have found them to be almost double the cost of anywhere else. Also check around and see if there are any reptile shops in your area, they tend to have good prices. We are lucky to have 4-5 in our area.

I'm using a plug in light dimmer that I got at Home Depot for $10 on my UTH. It took a little playing with to get it adjusted to the right temp but it is working great now. I have a probe thermometer stuck on the bottom of the viv right over the middle of the UTH to monitor the temp.

I use a T-Rex Cobra UTH. I like it because it doesn't come with adhesive. I just taped it on to the bottom of the tank. That way I can move it if I need to.
