Please advise on what is wrong.

Max is an 07 normal Anerythristic Type A. He has now shed twice with me. Both sheds have been incomplete. I have had to use the "towel" method to aid in the shed both times.
After the first shed, I removed the heat lamp that set on the screen at the right side of the tank. I replaced it with a 20 Gallon UTH under the tree (outside bottom of the tank). since the UTH, he no longer hides inside the tree, he stays on top of the tree.
When I noticed he was about to shed for the second time, I jammed a damp rag in the tree hole (visable in pic, color green). I misted the tank twice a day with This stuff, and put a piece of card stock over the screen where the tree is to keep any moisture there.
Still he had an incomplete shed.

Please help!

NOTE: The substrate is about 2" deep, but inside the tree where the UTH is, it's about 1/2" deep.

Why are you blocking the hole in the tree, my snake loves to crawl inside and hide. Why the light on top, you don't need it if you have UTH. Snake needs more hides. Is that a water dish on the side, sorry little hard to see. You can mist everday with water, offer more hides and a moist hide if ambient air is dry. good luck, susang

I don't know the temps.:shrugs:
I got my laser temp gun from the Garage, and the cool side is 84 degrees F. The warm side is 96 degrees F.

Okay, I'll remove the light. The tree has 3 openings. Left, Right & Top. I blocked the top with a damp rag to try and raise moisture.

WOW!
Too hot, no wonder he was never close to where the heat was.
When you had the heat lamp he was on the floor, now that you have floor heat he's refusing to hide on the bottom.
He's having shedding issues because it's waaay to hot for the poor baby. You need to regulate your tempatures ASAP, honestly if it's at least in the 70's right now and he's not in the middle of digesting I suggest turning your heating impliments off untill you fix this.

You should take the temp on the glass directly over the UTH, not on the beddig over the UTH, see what that is

What are the temps in your house right now?
I would try raising the tank temporary a few inches above the ground and turning the UTH back on because now you're risking regurgitation.

edit: unless of course you affixed it to the tank

Even if it is attached to bottom of viv lifting one side with pegs or whatever will allow air flow and cool the pad down.

If those are the temps in your room (holy cow that's a hot room) then go ahead and leave everything unplugged.
You need to investigate purchasing a thermostat or a rheostat.

edit: and when I said ground I meant whatever surface the tank is on, not the ground of the room.

If that's the constant temp in there I'm wondering whether you ever need heating devices...ever.
Infact if you leave him in that room you just need better ways to keep him cool.

OK so not trying to be rude here, but how do you kkow the temp in the room. I say that because it is 30 degrees here our house is 70 degrees inside, if it was 85 I'ld be getting my shorts out. Temps are important like Jen said the room temp, I said temp over UTH. While I agree with Jen leave everything off part of me is saying not a good idea because I doubt your room is 85.

Well of course I'm assuming the tempatures are accurate.
If they are not this is all a moot point....and if they're not accurate then I have no idea what to say to do with the snake.
