what kind of snake is this

i found this snake in my back yard today. it is gray on top with brown saddles with a thin black border and the belly is lite gray with black checks and the tip of it's tongue looks black. it is really mellow and only tryed to bite a couple of times and is not really squirmy. sorry for the lousy pics best i can get on my web cam.

Hard telling from the pictures you posted but by the description you are giving I think it could very well be an Eastern Milksnake. Great find.

thanks that is what i thought it was. this is the second time i found one and am thinking about keeping it since it is so docile if i can get it to eat.
 
Yep, my guess is Eastern Milk as well. Nice! I found an angry little one last summer in Wisconsin.
