What price are you waiting for visual palmettos to hit before you buy?

the last time I looked into this they were going for 4,000. but lost touch with the scene. I have been wondering myself where we are at with the palmettos because I would love to own one, but still cant find much info on them. has any one been able to successfully produce a palmetto? who is in possession of any at this time. I know smr but is there any one else that has been able to get a hold of any? again I have been out of touch but am very interested in them.

I think they are one of the most beautiful and unique morphs currently available. That being said, I wouldn't be looking to make an 'investment', so I probably won't be purchasing one for many years until they drop to under 500.

Travis Whisler bought up the project last year.

Considering the $1500 price drop, I'm regretting not waiting til this year, especially since Murphy is so determined to screw with me.

Lots of them are starting to be produced relatively speaking, many overseas. Some of them do have big eyes which is a concern.

While I agree that palmettos are beautiful, as a non-breeder, it is not a must have for me. So probably not at any price. That said, if I had to name a price where I might jump, it would be $300 to $400.

Welcome to the forum cpblover !

There is a half dozen or so other than TWR that are producing hets and even selling some visuals for awhile now. Already anery and amel palmetto visuals and hets have been advertized. My guess that when next years hatchlings hit the market that there will be another $500+ price drop.
I would buy a visual palmetto pair when the price for hatchlings is close to other higher end combo morphs that is selling in pet's only side of the industry. Yeah it will be awhile LOL.
Due to the uniqueness and beauty of the palmetto they will be in demand for awhile....

For me I think $400 is the price that I'd finally be willing to pick one up. Hopefully that'll happen in the next 3-5 years or so

Good info. Thanks y'all. Just trying to see what the "sweet spot" will be.

Does anyone know if the big dogs have a lot of them? IE Barcheck, Bells, and gourmet rodent

I don't think BHB (Barczyk) is breeding them (he's breeding scaleless). I don't know who Bells is. Does Gourmet Rodent sell corn snakes? I don't see any on their web site.

There are a few ads for Palmetto, or het Palmetto on Fauna right now.

Mark and Kim Bell run Reptile Industries. I think the biggest breeding outfit in North America.

Thanks. I don't know why they aren't on my radar, but they aren't. I see they do have a retail presence called ReptMart. Didn't see any palmettos there, either.

I don't think the Bells (Reptile Industries, ReptMart) are into palmettos just yet, or at least they haven't produced yet. Mike Fedzen isn't really a corn guy but of course has visual babies this year. Quite a few palmettos have gone overseas as well, and many of those breeders don't post in American and international groups. A handful of folks are throwing new genes in the mix, and I know once I have the chance to I may hold back most of my hets. I expect to see some world first color combos pop up next summer.

100% Het palmetto babies going for $700 on Fauna!
2 hets for for $1400 shipped and could be producing visuals (25%) a generation earlier than a $2500 visual mated to whatever only to get hets looks like the way to go if anybody is thinking about jumping into Palmetto's :eek:k_01:

OR

Buy that pair of RTB het albino adult pair for 12K
:shrugs::sidestep:

A side note does anyone know roughly what % have bug-eyes?

We've now had Palmetto babies for the last two years and I'd say that we produce less than 10% bug eyed animals. We're still working on it, but I feel like we can breed away from bug eyes and eventually get that percentage way down. We were able to lower that percentage this year quite a bit. I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Travis Whisler

I had read that article from Don S, but thanks for posting the link daddio. It's a good one. I absolutely trust that US breeders are breeding against bug eye. It is just something to be aware of.
