I'm interested in hearing how everybody began this hobby. Did it start as one snake that was meant to just be a pet (like me), and was that snake a corn or something else? Did you always like snakes?
 
I always loved all animals always had my nose anywhere near them lol So when I had moved out of my mom's with my Boyfriend we had talked about how having "A" (emphasis on a like singular as in ONE!) would be cool. Saw an add on craigslist for cornsnakes in Dec. 09 for an awesome price. Went and picked TWO from the breeder and gave them to my BF and I for Christmas. I blame that breeder for my addiction, she is however a dear friend of mine now and graciously helps me when I need it. As you can see from my signature our collection has grown but I love them all they are all different and I wouldn't want any other kind of pet to take their place.
 
I Use to be scared to death of snakes (mostly because I couldnt tell the difference between venomous and non, and not to mention my mom telling me horror stories as a kid) Well over the last year I really started to find them interesting and started to do research. After doing ALOT of research I really started to find them very cool animals.

So I started to get the stuff together to get A (single haha) Corn snake. Then the week before Christmas my wife decided to get me one (had me pick it out) the day I got the last bit of things I needed for the viv. I right away enjoyed my new snake a lot. Then within 2 months I picked up my Female Ball Python and really liked her. She is great for holding and seems to enjoy hanging out around my neck all the time. Then a couple weeks ago I picked up my 3rd snake, another BP but this one is suppose to be a male but hasnt been sexed so it could possibly be a female (I hope not, I was hoping to get a male).

So far I enjoy all 3 of my snakes. When I feel like handling a very active snake I get out my Corn snake Seth because he is always on the go, and if I feel like getting out one that will just hang out with me I get out Jess my female BP. The new BP hasnt been handled much so he is still getting use to being handled. One thing I do like is how easy they are to take care of, and that they can live for so long :D
 
Well it all started when I saw Finding Nemo.I thought the salt-water fish were so colorful I asked my dad if we could get a marin tank.He said yes, but we had to get rid of a few of the fresh-water tanks.I was sad so he said that we could get a snake.But my mom was not crazy about a snake(rather she was crazy about not getting a snake)So they settled on a Bearded Dragon.I thought that was awesome so my parents did research because they would take care of him until I could.

Last January I thought about snakes and how amazing they are.So I started researching types that did not need mice.I started researching types of snakes that ate stuff other than mice(I didn't love the idea of feeding a mammal to something)But I found that the ones that didn't need mice were not good with handling.

I had this idea that me wanting a snake was a phase.So I stopped researching them for about 3-4 weeks.I still wanted a snake so I asked my parents if I could get a snake and they finally said yes, I also started researching good beginner snakes.I found that BPs were great beginner snakes(I saw corn snakes too but I had already started really researching BPs).Once I had gathered a lot of information on them I went to one last site that gave pros and cons on corn snakes and BPs.I said that BPs could be bad feeders and most would need live.

Now with that information[SIZE=+0] I started researching corn snakes ,and a few months later I got not 1 but 2 little snakes from a reptile show and now I'm part of this site and want more corns.[/SIZE]
 
When I first started researching snakes I also wanted on that didn't eat rodents. It didn't bother me so much but everyone else in my family didn't like it. I found that my options were really limited to skinny flighty snakes. When I found out snakes will eat f/t I became interested in the corn snake and got my first one soon after.
 
I held a Rosy Boa when I was 5 and it was all over. I bugged my mom ENDLESSLY to let me have a snake. She finally relented and got me a Garter Snake. He lived until I was about 12 (he was already an adult when I got him) and then I didn't get any more snakes for years. First Mom didn't want anymore in the house, then much later it was a girlfriend. She didn't dislike snakes but she saw having another pet as impractical (definitely not MY style.) I continued to read about snakes and go herping throughout that whole dry spell. Then we broke up. So I adopted a Dice Snake from a co-worker. That snake hated humanity and I LOVED it. Shortly after getting the Dice Snake, I got a Cal-King which was always a favorite of mine. Then a Corn (female) and then a Corn (Male.) After some research, I put those Corns together and after they hooked up the first time I was REALLY hooked. Within 6 months I had not only bought many snakes and hatched many out, but also inherited a pretty sizable collection from my Uncle and had over 100 snakes. :)
 
For me it was the genetics of corn snakes that holds the most appeal. Sure ball pythons come in different morphs....But I find it hard sometimes to tell the difference between some. Now corn snakes come in just about every color imaginable. And that is what hooked me. Not mention how low maintenance they are and ease of care.

I bred dogs for a lot of years and snakes in general have them beat in just about every department. Plus my oldest son has said since he could talk that he wants to be a herpatologist, so it made sense to go ahead with having a couple of reptiles. Just forgot to stop at a couple. I can thank Steve Irwin for my childs love of reptiles.
 
I've always liked snakes. The first pet I wanted as a child was a boa constrictor. My first snake was a corn, and I suppose my intention was for her to be my only snake. But then I joined this forum and continued going to reptile expos (it is so hard to go and "just look"!). I am happy with my current collection though, and I don't have plans to add more.
 
I've always been crazy about reptiles especially snakes. When I was little (5 or so) my dad would catch garter snakes for me in the yard (I lived in FL). I loved it so much, that anything snake related became my job. I chased rattlesnakes off the cool deck and out of the screened in porch/pool. When I turned 8 I went to the circus and volunteered to hold the albino burmese during the reptile show...I was in love!

I bought my first corn when I turned 18, for my birthday. I actually managed to own just the one for four years. Now I have 3...that's probably my limit for a bit...the hubby is "sensible"
 
It's funny, 4 months ago I couldn't tell you a thing about snakes. I always thought they were cute. I know it sounds weird but I've always thought there was some quality to them that made them cute and could never really put my finger on it! Now I have 6 snakes and now know more about snakes than any other animal.
