What temperature do you keep your corns?

Bubbles

We Can't All Be Smart.
I got a new VIV today and the temperatures are around 75 - 80 Max i cant get it any higher without the aid of a light. just curious if this temperature is fine?

What temperature do you all keep your corns anyway during the day and night.

Anyone have any ideas how the raise the temperature without a light source? i have put the new VIV in the hottest part of my room and the heatmatt in the tank.

the tank its self is a 3ft Perfect tank. the top is mesh and it has holes in the side for extra ventilation. the heatmat i got covers around half of the bottom surface area and is on the inside of the glass.

Thanks for everyones help who commends in this thread.

:shrugs:

If they are hatchlings than you may want to raise the temp. a bit, but I've heard of many people over the years keeping their bigger corns at room temps with no additional heating sources and they have thrived and bred with no problems. My temps run from 83-84 most of the year to 74-75 Oct 15th -1st of Jan. and they still eat, still digest and poop fine too lol; they do get fed less frequently and I try to feed smaller prey plus a slice down the back opens the prey item up to aid in digestion :)

yeah i did read up on the subject a little and it said it can stunt the snakes groth dont no if its true. i suppose it could stop the snake eating regualy and then make it not grow as much as a side effect.

the snake i have is a 4ft Adult the temperature is current around 75 - 78 doesnt go below or above. at the moment its Winter were i am and pritty cold outside. i think this cools my room down a little and drops the temp a little bit more.

so you think the temp is fine for now?

I don't know about the growth stunting. I had two yearlings both go thru nice growth spurts last year during my "cool" season, albeit I attributed that to their being "assisted" in digestion by using cut prey and the fact they ate rat pinks during that time.

Monitor his eating/pooping habits. As long as he is digesting his food fine and not regurging I'd say thats fine. What kind of heat mat setup do you have and how are you using it? Also where are you measuring your temps. at?

Digi terminator thingy in the tank and the heatmat covers half the bottom surface area of the tank. the mats in top of the glass not under it. i have wood chips over the matt also only around 1.5cm of the wood chips.

Most mats arent designed to be in the tank, but I am no expert on the various types of UTH's neither...Your "Digi terminator thingy" is measuring the temps right on the substrate over the mat?

yep i put the probe thing just above the substrate. i did this because the snake doesnt lay on the matt but the substrate. thought this would give a better reading its currently at 77.

I'd be concerned if your snake decided to burrow down in the substrate and lie directly on the mat (how hot does the surface of the mat get?) but other than that just monitor how he eats and poops.

ok thatnks for the advise and he has only been in there for around 3 houres now has not burrowed just went into the hide that i put on the heatmat. he is due for a feading on thersday and unfortunatly he went for a poo this monrning.

thank you for the help anyways ill try sort out this temp it seams a little low for my liking around 80 seams alright to me i suppose its not much lower than that. but still gets me worried.

Your temps are probably much higher than that directly on the heat mat, especially if you put it inside the tank. My heat mat gets to well over 100 degrees. I'd recommend you remove it and put it under the tank. Just because your corn hasn't burrowed yet doesn't mean he never will.

OK will do i didint think of it that way and yes my heatmat does get hot. not to hot to burn but hot enougth to not feel Confey touching.
