What's an ideal size enclosure for Lily

Lily was purchased as a fairly large adult. She's pretty close to 5 feet but I can't truly accurately measure her because I don't know how.

I was wondering what is the ideal size for an enclosure for her. I know she needs a cool side and a warm side and a hiding spot in both places.

Also, she has shown less interest in food lately, some people have mentioned this time of year being a mating time. Could that be the reason? She normally eats 2 medium sized mice every week, but she is completely uninterested right now. (She's eaten one in the past two weeks.)

She is also burrowing a lot more than usual could this be due to the season, or might she feel unsafe (trying to hide) I am going to try moving her hiding spot and see if she seems more like herself.

Please let me know what you think...I'm a little worried about her.

Hello a 20 long is great size viv for an adult. What are your temp. at in your viv? This could be the reason for the sudden change in feeding habits.

A 20L is the minimule rule here but 30 or more will be no problem.
It's mainly what you have room for personally like.
Yes, they tend to go off food this time of year. Still make your worry. And they do like to burrow in the aspen, just normal behavior.
Should like your snake is fine.
But what size do you have him in now?

I house my largest corn in a 40 gal tank and he seems to like being able to stretch out and explore. If you think she might be feeling vulnerable you can always add more hides. I try to place hides and fake plants around my tank so that my snakes are able to get from one end of the tank to the other without being seen so they don't feel too exposed.

If you want to measure your snake you can always use a piece of string to measure her and then measure the string, or you could use Serp's program

hope that helps a little. :)

The lack of interest in food may also indicate that Lily may be a Louie. Are you sure the snake is female? At its size, gender could probably be determined by tail size and shape. A male's tail is longer, and stays nearly uniform width a good distance past the vent. A female's tail is shorter, and tapers quickly after the vent. :shrugs:
