Congratulations on the soon to be acquired corn. Good job for searching for info first. Reptiles are not a good thing to "jump into" without knowledge.
Anerys are cheap and don't have red eyes. And of course, the normal or possibly oketee make beautiful first pets and are of course one of the prettiest. You can possibly get one of these with the motley pattern. (spotting or connected saddles) or a striped in these cultivars. (types)
If you don't want to spend a fortune in shipping for a cheaper cost snake try a local herp show.
www.herpshows.com or a GOOD local pet store or breeder. Be very careful with local pet stores.... some bad experiences by many or you could rescue one by doing a search for reptile rescues near you.
I recomend the Cornsnake Manual by Bill and Kathy love---tons of info----well worth the ten or so bucks
But, if you choose to order online, you will get quality from a lot of breeders such as
www.serpenco.com (Rich Zuchowski) and
www.cornsnakes.net (Don Soderberg) and Kathy Love (corn-utopa.com)
BTW, the corn up in the corner is an amel lavender or opal corn. Very expensice variety but very pretty.
Check out serpenco.com for the price list. They include lots of names and info about the types of corns available....new things are popping up every year.
Good luck! Let us know when you get your new serpent friend!
