He has a warm half and a cool half but he always wants to be in the cooler half. I have double checked the temps and they are good. He is happy and healthy and eating great, is this ok for him to do this?
I've got a bunch of hatchlings that all like something different, my thoughts are that as long as you offer the two different temps with hides on each they will pick what they want.

Most of mine tend to live at the cooler side, only venturing onto the warm side if they're digesting or they're feeling a bit under the weather.
As said above, as long as you're offering yours the right temperature range, with hides on both sides (and in the middle - the more the merrier!) then he'll choose what suits him.
