Will my snake find his warm spot on his own?

Hello all, new owner here! I got my corn on Monday, he's a beautiful Whiteout I've named Shady. I'll post more about him in my new member introduction, but the specific question I have at the moment is whether or not he'll locate his warm spot on his own? I was going to try his first feeding today, but since I set up the UTH and thermostat yesterday (originally had a lamp, before i found this site and learned that was wrong) he's mostly been in his cool-side hide. He's ventured over to the warm side, but only around the edge of the glass, not into the warm hide or the center of the UTH-affected area. I'm just nervous since he's my first snake (or pet that i've gotten on my own, for that matter) and I really don't want to screw up. If I feed him will he find his warm spot when he needs it for digestion? Or should I gently place him on the warm side so he knows where it is first? Thanks for any advice.

He'll find it on his own. You just need to make sure that there's a hide on the warm side so he can scoot over there without being seen and feel secure about using it.

Mine spend most of their lives on the cool side, only occasionally going to the warm side. Yours sounds perfectly normal. He'll be more inclined to hide as a newcomer and will probably be doing most of his exploring whilst you're asleep.

He will find it when he needs it, most of the corns seem to spend the majority of their time in the cool side. As long as you have hides on both sides he will be fine. The more hides the better (they don't look good but paper towel tubs are great).
BTW great pickup and choice on a whiteout.
John

Thank you both very much for the reassurance! I've been resisting asking a lot of silly nerve questions, but I just didn't want to take the risk with his metabolic needs.

And thank you, John. He was an impulse purchase at Petsmart, I had actually gone to get a cat but one of my roommates texted me on the way there that he was allergic, which I had not known. I'm 99% sure he's a whiteout, I thought he was a blizzard for the first few days but searching through the forums someone said that Blizzards have markings on their stomachs, while Shady does not (or any visible pattern for that matter, other than his pink head-crest). And while he was an impulse purchase, he has quickly become my #1 concern, haha.

I know you don't care as long as he is healthy, but he is most likely a blizzard. Most all blizzards you can't see the belly checkers with the eye and all though I have seen some strange morphs from there, there are not enough breeders out there breeding them to end up in a pet shop.

Thanks for the clarification, I didn't want to be saying the wrong morph. Like you said, though, as long as he's healthy he could be any morph and I wouldn't care. He's got a very cool pink sheen beneath the white, but he's not translucent like some of the whiteouts i've seen, so that was why I wasn't completely certain anyway. I think i got lucky with him for a petsmart snake, he's healthy and active and curious. The curiousness just comes in half-hour bouts in between 5-hour naps. The girl in charge of the reptiles at that particular petsmart said she had 2 corns at home, so I think it was one of those rare instances where the employee actually has a passion for that animal. The only real positive about his pet-store life is that he's used to being watched and isn't particularly shy (unless you hover over his viv, but if you sit and look in from the side he couldn't be less bothered).

I always heard that UTHs were bad for snakes (Iunno, I use lamps, so meh haha). Anyways mine does that also; He loves staying in the warm, but he occasionally sleeps in the warm end. Sometimes when he eats, he stays in the cool end. Either way, he's been fine ever since I've gotten him. I just make sure the temps are right and let him do his thing. :) He'll explore at night, while you are sleeping, so he knows where the warmth is.

On the whiteout, it will probably take a few sheds, depending on the age, to see more of the pattern. I'm surprised there was a blizzard in a pet shop period! So congrats on that! Either way, he sounds like he has a cute little disposition, so I hope everything goes smooth! :) Have you thought of a name?

Yes his name is Shady, as in Slim Shady. Not very original but it was what popped into my head as I left the pet store. He ended up finding his warm spot today after he was fed, warmed up there for awhile and then went back to his cool hide. So huzzah! No worries.

Awwwwww! How adorable! :') (I'm an idiot and doing too much at once haha. Shady is a cute name!)

Awwww, he's just adorable. Welcome! We're pretty new, too. Just had corns for over 3 months now. Went from getting a 2 year old Creamsicle for my 9 year old's birthday to me getting a 3 year old Keys (Rosy Rat) for me to my 13 year old getting a 4 month old Snow for her birthday, all in under 2 months. Since then her boyfriend got a corn, and our neighbors adopted a ball python from wildlybeautiful on here! :) Snakes are addicting. This is hands down the best place to get info on corns! One of our local Petco's has a real reptile lover working in the reptile department and we stop by to see his corns and they are very well take care of. I would buy one from there. We found our older two on Craigslist and got really lucky, both in good health and came with their vivs and all their stuff. Hope to be able to watch Shady grow!! So cute!

I always heard that UTHs were bad for snakes
Not on this board! Generally we recommend a UTH+thermostat as the best way to heat a Corn as it gives them belly heat for digestion. Having said that, plenty of folks use overhead sources successfully as long as they're properly shielded and used with a temperature controller.
