Will only eat inside his cage....

SunnyCorn

No Soup For You!!
I'm just wondering if it's OK to feed them in their cage? I've tried feeding him in another container, but he likes the safety of his home, and will only eat in his cage, I just got him, and he has gotten used to his home, but won't eat outside of it. Should I keep this up and then 1 or 2 weeks later try again in a feeding container? Or can I just keep feeding him in his cage? Advise appreciated. :wavey:

I've had a few hatchlings that would only eat in their enclosures for the first four or five feedings. This isn't a problem as long as you're using paper towels, newspaper, or some other non-particulate substrate. If the snake ingests pieces of aspen, or care-fresh, or bed-a-beast, or whatever, it could cause bowel impaction, and possibly death. After your corn's feeding response has been well established, he'll eat in a feeding container. Good luck.

No he hasn't eaten any of his bedding but I'll make sure he doesn't it anything like that, THANKS!

I have one snake that is on aspen bedding and doesn't like to eat outside of her cage also. What I do is put the mouse in a small container such as a small tupperware container inside the cage while I am holding her out of the cage. Then I lower her into the tupperware until she finds the mouse. Once she starts to swallow it, I let her finish and remove the tupperware later after she crawls out to find her warm hide.

I'm with Roy. It would be a good idea to put Sunny on paper towels or newspaper until he is a little older and feeling more secure. Plus it's a lot easier to find there poops then in aspen :p. Have a good one!
