Would a grey rat and a normal corn make...

Would a grey rat and a normal corn be able to breed and make fertile baby's? I was just curious because I came across a real nice grey rat thats about 24" for 19.99 and it is from Brenda at The Lizard King Reptiles. I trust her with it and I know that this deal won't last long.

Yes there have been fertile Hybrids from corn/gray rat crosses.
I believe the term "frosted" has been used before.
There may be some trickery involved getting them to hook up

Usually involves switching the female at the height of "passion"
In other words, you need to have a compatable female for the corn and pull her out and replace her with the gray rat before they hook up

Actually, I dont think there is any trickery required for this cross.

There are several locations in the country where gray rats range overlap that of the corns.

I found a source for my response as it pertains to emoryi
The Guide To Owning A Corn Snake-Jerry G. Walls

"Given a choice, it seems that a male Great Plains Rat Snake will not mate with a Red Rat or Corn Snake."
"The trick is to let a pair of either species begin the usual mating rituals and, just before actual copulation, quickly remove the female and substitute a breeding-ready female of the other species. In many cases the male will continue his mating behavior unless the female becomes especially aggressive."

This information is from 1994 I believe and may be of some value in getting Corns and Grey Rats to hook up also.

Gray rats are very cheap snakes. I wouldn't consider $20 for one a killer deal.
