cuddling corn snakes

Cuddling corn snakes

:) I have baby corns that I keep together and they do just fine and i do the same with me boas and my boas are all over 5ft

you keep your boas toghter? that's cool. Yea soemday I"ll get soem more sankes, prolly not till i"m older, and in my own house, just cause my mom will not let me get a burm or anything. Not sayign that I wana burm forsure. I will gat a Ball soemday, prolly next snake. then I'd have to get a boa soemday too. CATS

The rainbows are ok as they don't grow huge like a brum or common boa, as long as they have enough room they can live together. The viv their in is a custom built 8ft long viv, 3ft high and 4ft from font to back, so they have plenty of room and can keep their distance from each other if they want. Anything bigger and i would say they should be kept on their own.

A ball is a good snake that doesnt grow much bigger then a corn lengh wise, but will grow a jell of a lot fatter (it's natural for them to be fatter) . Sorry shouldn't say fatter it should be wider built. They can be a bit snappy at first though but once they settle and get used to being handled, they should be a good snake.

that's good, I will get a ball some day, I cant' wait till I have like a big collection of snakes. but always soemtign to look forward to. :twoguns:

when I had 2 they used to cuddle but one of them was so stressed she didn't eat and she died! :( :( :( so i guess it's not because they like each other but they share heat or something like someone else said

That happens somrtimes. 1 is the more dominant and the other stop's eating then drinking and eventually.....

Sorry for the loss anyway Jamie_FT, some just arn't up to sharing a viv.

I have 15 crn snakes I had 17 but this one i had gotten from a friend did not eat so well so I had to force feed it and when I did the first 6 times it went great but the 7th time I tryed I noticed it was not looking so good and 2 days letter she had died soon after that the same thing happened to her little buddy and I dont know really why they died but I have been force feeding for a long time and this has never happened befor so I guess the snakes I got from my friend were not so healthy any was but things like this happen. My juvinile a week after they died layed 6 eggs and 3 are good and will hatch on or around cheistmas.

Whenever I go to pet stores to oogle at snakes they always have a whole bunch of baby corns obviously from the same clutch and they are ALWAYS together. I think it’s a “being young” thing. I have no experience with older corns.

Hey Blckkat,

I am assuming the link is to the pics of the BP eaten by the Boa...
The link didn't work...I may be able to find another...I have seen this posted to SEVERAL forums.

And you hit it right on the head...it is NOT a good idea...all it takes is one wrong thing to happen...and you have a dead snake. Not worth the risk in my book. I care too much about them to risk it...besides the major time and monetary investment.

WARNING: THESE PICTURES ARE GRAPHIC...IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE REALITY OF NATURE, DO NOT CONTINUE

Here are the pics...the Bob Clark link no longer works...but I found them at Alex Hue Reptiles Forum...and saved them.

This is why you don't house two snakes together.
Boa Constrictors are not known for eating other snakes in the wild...eating mostly warm blooded prey, although they are opportunistic feeders also eating frogs, iguanas, and caimans.

I saw them the other day on another thread, and it's true this is a worst case sinario. But who would house a python and a boa together? Not me that for sure, hell i don't even like breeding a rat snake to a corn snake, but sometimes people want the crossed ofspring they produce.

A Ball Python and a Boa cannot breed...as far as I know.
They were just housed together (for lack of space...or whatever other reason people would ever house two snakes together)

This is just what can happen...my point is that everyday your snakes are housed together, you run the risk of this happening.

It wasn't about crossing offspring. It's about housing snakes together. I'm sure we could find pictures of cornsnake cannabilisum as well. I just thought it a good heads up to make people aware that it CAN happen (in all different species)...and those that keep their snakes together run the risk every day...

I didn't mean that the python and boa was being crossed.

As to canablism I know it can and does happen in corns and most other types of snakes, my point was who would keep a boa and python together for whatever reason!!!
2 of the same for space saving, yeah it makes more sence, but 2 differant species of snake housed together? I wouldn't risk it with 2differant species. :twoguns:

An uneducated or uncaring person. :) It happens all the time. I've seen many threads on the Bob Clark forums... "I want to put my ball in with my cornsnake." "I house my redtail with my ball and don't have any problems"

If you are incapable of housing the animals properly (ie each to their own viv)...then DON'T GET THEM.

I have reptiles that are pets that breed...

and I have reptiles that are strictly pets that I do not breed...

Depends on which individual animal you are speaking of...
