Driving down?

I am seriously reconsidering coming down, but have to drive. I live in upstate SC, and am happy to share expenses with anyone driving down, or I am also able to drive if someone wants to come to our house, and drive the rest of the way in my van (VW Eurovan). It's about an 8-hour trip from where I live. Thanks!

And Lynnea - if you do decide to come, we may still be able to get rooms at our discounted rates. I spoke to the hotel earlier today and it sounded like there were still some available if we needed any more.
Or you can see if anyone else is looking to "bunk up".

Yes, it is.

Lindsey is planning on bunking with us, which gives us 5 people. It is a one bedroom suite, so 5 is fine. But if she wants to share with you for more privacy (or less bathroom sharing, lol!), that is fine, too. We are easy to please - whatever works for everyone is usually fine by us.

Great, because I booked my room today there! I am willing to share, I have a king bed but pullout sofabed, so Lindsay can PM me.

No, I thought that was not in effect after August 1--? If I can get that rate, I can cancel the current reservation and make a new one (hopefully). What do I need to do?

After 8/1 our rates were based on availability....but when I talked to them earlier today it sounded like we could still get a few more rooms at our rates. If you PM me your confirmation number I will call them and see if they can just adjust the rate on the room you already booked.
Also - if you are coming to dinner - let Carol know. I think you already bought a raffle ticket (which would also count as your dinner ticket), right?

It is Monday night...

And it appears that most everyone was satisfied with the look of the award, and the choice of the rosewood stained plaque. So Bill chose a font that is very similar to the IHS Laszlo award, and looks good to us. Unless anyone has any big objections, what you see below is what I will order tomorrow, on the rosewood 8 x 10" plaque.

Speak up now if you see any mistakes or problems!!

Just a thought...I went to NY with a friend for the Yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier) Specialty show that was held in conjunction with the Westminster KC show one year and that club did something super fun. They had a bingo night, cards were $1, and if you won, they had a table of donated doggie items to choose from. All the proceeds went to Yorkie Rescue, I believe. Several times during the evening, one of the "callers" would throw hand-crocheted little balls into the crowd. It was hilarious watching people dive for those silly things! At any rate, maybe Corn Bingo would be something to consider for the future--?

Post Event Questionaire

The plaque has been ordered. They said we can pick it up next Tues.

Thanks Kathy! And Community! For Making This Happen!!!
Is there a Bill Haast Memorial Award? I was google image searching the other day for some subconscious reason, and found 'Temple Viper'. I think I need a trio. I'll tell the neighbors they're Arizona Scrub Boas. They never travel far from home.

Some ideas had been tossed about earlier in the thr(ea)d about
tossing together a questionaire
at some point,
inquiring for suggestions for next year's extravagazma,
Since I'm already in the town,
(and sitting on a milk crate waiting to be first in line)
I'll get them printed out. Save ya'll the ordeal.
I was thinking Yellow Paper for these, to keep them distinctive from any other papers which might be flying around thru the evening
and
having a "Event Questionaire Drop Off Box" at each Exit. So there aren't real people looking at them as they're turned in, it's not appropriate ettiquette, as it can modify behaviors and answers.
I've also considered having a fax number and mail in address on the bottom,
but I, personally, don't want to do the paperwork for those, and no faxy hear.
though studies indicate that questionaires not turned in at the event seldom make them returned at all, though the ones which rarely do make it back are often useful, showing the person has taken much time to emotionally and logically process in their brains -what was asked on said paper.
Further, Some questions should be open ended questions, such as "What would you like to see that wasn't in tonight's (itinerary? Agenda? Line up? I'm having a cyxelsyd moment here).
And somewhere in there, perhaps a "how would you rate tonights event on a scale of 1-10"?

But I need your help. What other open ended and/or closed ended questions would youi like see presented on such a flyer?

Personally, I was hoping for a Captive Breeders for Captive Breeders Themed Talent Show,

and an award for "Most Controversial New Member", but that would never make any money, and the cost of renting a dunking machine, well, I dunno, that actually might make money . Gotta keep the ROI in mind. (Return On Investment)

Gotta get back to the water bowlizing.

Dave you crack me up!

What do you think - a questionaire type format or just a "suggestion" box where people could put any suggestions they have for next year?
Either one is fine with me. We could also include my email address on it so that if they didn't want to submit it right there they could email me later on.

I have been to some expos where they leave a survey for everyone, asking how it went and how to make it better. I think if there are a few questions already on it, plus a big space to write anything somebody wants to write, it will help prompt those who can't think of anything at the moment. Since this is basically a first time event for us (to do more than meet at a restaurant), this is probably the time when we need the MOST input to make it even better next year. I can't think of any questions right this moment, but we only need a few, along with the big, blank space.

Also, Connie Z. called me tonight, and we spent more than a half hour just talking about old times and plans for the future. It was a really nice chat - I usually only get to talk to her - very briefly - at shows. More like "hi - how's it going?", lol!

I got lots of good info for a short presentation speech. I will type it up - I think for Robbie?? She plans to have Rich at the hotel between 7 - 7:30. She said he is totally in the dark about it so far. Rich only looks at problem threads this time of year, and isn't likely to have time to look here. I told her to come here herself if she wants to know what's up. BTW, she said she did look in on this thread a month or two ago, in the early stages of planning. She said she was very impressed how everyone was working together to bring diverse ideas together, and being SO NICE about it, haha!

Connie also said she will donate something for the raffle, and will email me when she knows what it will be.

Does anyone want to make signs to put on vendor tables, advertising our get together and raffle? I know we discussed maps, but how about something that says something like "CORNSNAKE GET TOGETHER AND RAFFLE TONIGHT TO BENEFIT US ARK! ALL CORNSNAKE FANS INVITED!" (or something along those lines). We can't invite last minute attendees to the actual dinner, but they can come and buy raffle tickets! Then you (whoever takes it on) could also put the map, time, etc, on it. Maybe any vendors who sell corns would put them on their table to help us get more attendance, and more ticket sales.

Lots of last minute things to think of!

Ok - I will try to come up with a few general questions for a survey thingy over the next day or two.
I don't have access right now to a printer or copy machine but if someone wants to make up maps/fliers that we can put on some of the breeders tables I think that would be a great idea.

Glad to hear that Connie and Rich will be making it. Do you want to write up the speech for Robbie? If not, send me the info and I will see if I can put something together out of it.
