Sticking To The Ceiling
:spinner: Whee! Found this place by Googling 'corn snakes' and it was on the front page. This forum is also so well made it was impossible to pass up.

I also don't have a corn snake at the moment, but as soon as my leopard gecko dies, I'm gonna get one. :D I'm also thinking about trying to get an albino one; anything wrong with those ones?




Also, that might be pretty soon. I baby-sat my middle school's purple leopard gecko and about a month before school started back up he died. He just laid in the middle of the long 20gal tank I had them in (they got along fine together) for about a day before he died. Woke up and my female was doing that this morning. She looks a lot like this, only her yellow is a bit lighter than that.
 
You should take your gecko in to a vet to be sure it did not get sick from the other one from school. Not just let it suffer and die. If you don't use a vet for your lizard, would you use one for a snake? I am not so sure. Please, if you are not prepared to spend money going to the vet for your pets, don't get them.

As to specific colors having health issues over others I don't think any do. I have 3 Amels (AKA Red Albinos) and one Anery (AKA Black Albino), none of these have any issues and niether do my normals or diffused. In fact, I am not familiar with any issues in snakes other than the occassional parasite issue which a vet can easily resolve. Or shed issues which higher humidity can fix.

Anyways... Hey there, glad to have you on the forum. Corn snakes are wonderful, I love the variety in colors and patterns. As above mentioned we call each color type a different name. There are several different mostly white colored morphs if that's what you meant by Albino. Snow, Blizzard and Opal to name a few. But Albino doesn't mean the same in snakes as it does for humans and some animals.

I highly recommend the book "Corn Snakes, The Comprehensive Owners Guide" by Kathy & Billy Love for reading before you purchase a corn. It will give you an idea how to care for a corn and it has excellent pictures of the various morphs to help you decide what one you might like. You can purchase it directly from her through her website http://www.cornutopia.com/

Look through the Photo Gallery on here as well as the for sale section, there you will find tons of pics of different morphs. You are welcome to go to my profile and check out the pictures of the snakes I have in a photo album.

As for waiting for you gecko to die that is awfully sad. I would suggest taking it to a vet if you can find one before giving up on it. Talk to your parents, I'm sure they will help.
 
If they can't get mummy to pay for it either then the same applies. By the way at 15 I had money of my own. I mowed lawns, shopped for elderly neighbors, and babysat. In the winter I shoveled walks. I also walked dogs. There is no excuse in my oppinion (expcept maybe there not being any vets in driving distance).

That was almost two years ago, and I cleaned every thing out before and after. I would definitely take her to a vet, if she wasn't about 11 years old; and the vet I take her to (reptile specialist) said that treatment probably wouldn't do any good because of her age. She hasn't eaten anything for about four months, and I haven't seen her drink any water for about a week. Every animal I've had has stopped eating and drinking before they die, so this is no different.

I just wanted to make sure; I don't wanna get a pretty albino that bites me whenever I try feeding it or handling it.

lmao; my mom is always happy to lend me money for something like vet bills.

At a pet store, I saw they had an area for fancy corn snakes, and one of the three snakes in the picture they had was a wonderful white with red/pink eyes, so I assumed it was albino.

Thank you for the lovely link. However, I don't particularly like that the book is only 230 pages, when a book like 'Corn snakes for Dummies' would have well over 1000.

I would, but as stated above, I called the vet with her age, it's not likely it'll do any good. And I don't have the heart to put her through any treatment; last time I took her to the vet, as soon as I handed her over she dropped her tail. :headbang:
 
sorry for the double post. surely someone has a vehicle. Or public transportation? Snakes make no noise and can easily be smuggled to the vets. I smuggled a doxie dog once.
 
I sent a private appology for that last post, wanted to make a public one too, they wrote the post above my last while I wrote my snide remarks. My "mouth" ran off with me and I am truely sorry.
 
^ No worries. I expected at least a few remarks such as that since I AM young (most people think I'm at least 20 though.

Also, since everyone's sharing the same opinion about my gecko, I pulled her out from under her log and she's not opening her eyes or moving. She's just too far gone to even do anything about. Hopefully she'll just fall asleep and not suffer; it's been horrible watching her for the past few days.
 
I'm sure you were joking about the "Corn Snakes for Dumbies" cause there is no such thing silly. And I guarantee the information in a book like that would be no where near the scope and quality that Kathy's book covers in less pages. The Love's have been breeding corns for longer than you and I have been alive and are very respected in the corn snake community. I have only owned corns for two months and I have learned a ton thanks to Kathy's book and this forum, which btw she recommended to me also :D So glad I got that book!

Is this something like the pic you saw on the label at the pet store? If so, then plan on hunting down a "snow". They are pretty common, and I'm sure if you talked to whoever did the ordering at that store and asked they would get it in for you. I would personally suggest going to a reptile show or getting in touch with a breeder since they will pretty much guarantee the little one to be healthy when it arrives. I'm pretty sure you are talking about a Petsmart since they are the only ones I have seen with "Fancy Corn Snake" label's. I'm sure you will find something way more interesting by going through the photo gallery..... I suggest Tessera as a start for a search. Don't plan on seeing one in your local pet store, or at least I don't plan on it.

^ That's a lot like what I saw; it's beautiful. And it was at Petsmart, marked as a fancy corn. I'm not sure if I'd be ABLE to find a local breeder, because where I'm located, everthing's either in Vegas or California. If I find a healthy snake at a local pet store and feel the desire for more, I'll probably wait until I have a license and ect and find myself a breeder.

<<<<<------ over there in my avatar pic is a baby snow corn (a smaller version of what oldsnow posted) The pet stores consider snows fancy idk why cause as you will see on here there are much fancier corns than snows. There is most certainly a breeder somewhere near you in NV. I will ask my friend who is a breeder and moved to OR from NV. There are also reptile expos at different times of the year where breeders gather to sell their snakes. I would talk to people on here from NV and ask them when and where the shows are.
I went to my first show last month and came home with three more corns lol :D as I said, ADDICTING!!!
 
^ lmao That sounds quite entertaining. I'm not sure if I'd wanna wait for an expo, though, 'cause the location also matters. I also don't want my 20gal tank to sit empty for any longer than it has to.

And who's the friend of yours? Maybe if I tell her/him you 'referred' me I'll get a discount and you'll get a free dinner or something. :D

The top is an Anery, the middle a snow and the bottom a normal. All pretty much what you see at pet shops although I recently lucked out and got a diffused (aka bloodred) at a small one in their little adoption corner! There is a cornsnake site based here in MO with reasonable prices for many kinds and $35 shipping! Browse, have fun finding the "right" one believe me there is no rush although you may think gotta have it now! LOL!
