This is the exact reason there is a legal separation between church and state and yet time and time again elected officials use their religious views to impose bogus legislation based on false ideas. This man needs a new day job to say the least.
"We are gathered this afternoon to draw attention to the unethical, immoral and racist practices of the largest abortion provider in America," said Dean Nelson, executive director of the Network of Politically Active Christians". How is abortion rascist? And why is it okay to skew Planned Parenthood as an organization handing out free abortions on the States dime to steal approval for this ammentment? Planned Parenthood CHARGES for their services at a reduced rate for young women of lower economic status except for abortion in which the patient pays the full amount regardless of income. However, lets say abortions were free or lower cost- why is that a bad thing? We would have less children on welfare, in foster care, on state health insurance, and in homes where they lived hungry, not properly supported, and neglected. It's easy to say don't have unprotected sex, but 1. unprotected sex isn't a sure fire way to avoid unwanted pregnancy, and 2. People suck this is just one example of how flawed we humans are- we have unprotected sex.

Then this douche goes on to quote "The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children," said Marshall, a Republican.
"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There's a special punishment Christians would suggest."

This is my one MAJOR problem with the Republican party. It's not even the Republican party anymore its a bunch of whacked out extremist Christians that hide behind a Bible and an elephant. WTH are we doing as a society? Why do we not stand up for our right to a separation between church and state? Delegates and other officials should be fired the instant their personal religious beliefs interfere with proposed and/or standing laws. I am so disgusted right now:(

Wow! Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow... wow!!!

I'm speechless... Why go all the way to the middle east to eradicate extremist nut jobs when we have so many here?

My thoughts exactly Michael- this guy is dangerous to politics his comments were abolutely out of line in every way.

Umm, dont't we have freedom of speech? I do not agree with this guy AT ALL, but isn't he allowed to have opinions & share them out loud? And wouldn't you rather KNOW that his opinions are pretty wild than not know & maybe vote for the guy or give money to him? Is he an elected official? The post looks like he is a rabble rouser for the right-to-lifers.

Now, does this mean I agree with him? NO!!! Does this mean I think the Republican Party isn't owned by people like him? NO!!!

But we do have freedom of speech in this country so I think we're stuck with tolerating this stuff.

Oh, and read some comments, too, at the link -- whole bunch of Christians calling him wrong & citing chapter & verse as to why he is wrong. So clearly not all are stuck in the same weird head space as this guy.

No not all for sure, but as a delegate freedom of speach should be confined to his private life and not his public position. He's a republican so I wouldn't vote for him anyway, but yes knowing his twisted opinion I suppose is helpful to those who may vote either way.

The US Constitution protects the freedom of speech of public officials even when it's religious public speech that may be offensive to others:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
— The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

No wiggle room in there for "but not in public if you are an elected official & your speech is hateful". We can only hope that his hateful speech leads to failing to be reelected, which would be IMHO good riddance to bad rubbish.

So... it's ok to have abortions as long as it would be your second kid and not your first?

Is it still considered a 'kid' if it's an unfertilized egg?

If so, does that mean every woman who didn't have a kid before having a period is sinning in the eyes of God?
