Lol....you'll be ok...when I first got the UTH I didn't have anything to regulate the heat or a proper thermometer. I felt the top of the glass with my hand all the time and it didn't feel too hot. But it was still warm so I figured it couldn't hurt him. Plus he was never on that side anyways. Then I realized, wait, if my body temp is 98.6 degrees...and this is warmer then my hand, then something is not right. So let me go get a digital thermometer w/ the probe. I only used the stick on one. So I went and got the zoo med one for $7, and OMG it was reading like 119 degrees! So I attempted to pick up the rheostat and NO ONE in the surrounding pet stores had one. So I asked what I could use until then and one of the ppl on these forums (Fatman608) stated use a lamp dimmer from Home Depot. It's been working great ever since I never went and got the rheostat.
