Hi there, I just got my little corn snake female yesterday and I wanted to make sure her behavior was normal. She's hidden under the substrate ever since I got her and I have not seen her since I put her in except once under the bedding against the wall of the tank. I'm guessing she's just scared and hiding? But I thought I should make sure there wasn't something wrong with that behavior : P

I'm no expert but that sounds like classic scared baby corn behaviour, have you got lots of hides and cover for her like fake plants n stuff as that tends to make em feel more secure.

Yeah, she's got three hides and silk plants. I'm wondering if maybe the cage is just plain old too big for her and I should move her into the tiny one I have? The one she's in now is really more adult sized, as it's 105 quarts. I have a tiny terrarium that's probably like, 2 gallons or something.

Almost all corns do that the first week(s). Nothing to worry about. If she doesn't want to eat than you should put her in a smaller viv but if she eats she can stay in the current one. Just let her be till the feeding en see how she does :)

Thanks Atmox : D Someone said that you should wait five days or so in a new setting like this before feeding, but it's been five days already since she was last fed and she's used to being fed ever five days, should I try feeding her?

Well some say to wait a week but mine ate after 5 days so you can try, leave her alone with if for some time, make sure the food is warm and if she doesn't eat it try again in 3-5 days. you don't wanna stress her with offering too much food. If she still doesn't eat over let's say 10 days try putting her in a smaller viv or you can do this sooner if you want. Success!

You just never know. I got a hatchling Bloodred on a Saturday, and didn't move it into its cage until Sunday. Then on Monday I offered it a F/T pinky, and it ate after about 5 minutes. That wasn't the best thing to try, I know, but everthing went well. It still is very excitable, usually striking at me whenever I pick it up for handling, but so far it eats everytime I offer it food. I've had it for about 2 weeks now. Just my experience....

I got my last corn in June, so my memory is a bit hazy. For the first week I kept him in his feeding tub because the twenty pound cat fell through the screen on the tank. I fed the snake about seven days after I got him, he was about eight months old at the time and already on double pinks. He rarely ever moves around his tank when I'm watching, unlike the other corn. Some corns like to be still, it may seem boring to us, but we arn't reptiles and time has no meaning to us. Keeping a snake is learning the art of patience.
