missing shed & shy again

so about a week and a half ago, i saw my corn's eyes go blue before clearing back up a couple days later. then for a couple days, i didn't hear him at all cruising around his tank in the early evening to almost 11pm like i normally did. i went to change his water bowl & in the process had to adjust one of the hides.. which just happened to be the one he was under.
his colors had dulled & eyes were blue again.. i let him move to his other hide before continuing to change his water & left him alone again for another few days, even putting off his scheduled meal, but still checking the tank twice a day.
tonight, before i was about to head to bed, i was going to check on him & move him over to the warmer hide of his tank but when i found him under the other hide, his colors were back, bright, & his eyes were cleared up & red again.
thing it, i've looked over every part of the surface of his tank, which is only a 10 gallon, & i don't see a shed anywhere. i'm using aspen bedding that's maybe an inch deep & was already planning on doing a monthly full cleaning of the tank in 2-3 (since i just fed him).

he's about 16-17inches & i'm just wondering, could he have burrowed through the aspen & it be somewhere in the bedding cause i have no idea where else. i didn't think corns burrowed because i hadn't read that anywhere but i'm still only a month into owning my first reptile so i know there's a lot i still don't know.

any suggestions or ideas? LOL
 
oh, & since he's been hiding for so long & i haven't gotten to hold him in about week, he seems a little shy or skittish again after i fed him but i'll be able to tell more after he has time to digest & has a chance to get back to acting like himself again....

just didn't know if anyone else had noticed their corn becoming shy or skittish a day or 2 after they shed.
 
He's still not shed yet. They go back to their normal colours for a few days after they go blue, then they shed after that.

All sounds normal to me! You should be seeing a shed in the next few days (probably sooner rather than later).

I think the OP's problem is that the snake has gone through the cycle twice, or at least appears to have done so.

I would check the aspen. My milk snake Marley manages to get most of his skin off down in the aspen. I had the "what the heck?" thing too until I realized it was buried. On the other hand I haven't had him or my corn go through what appeared to be two blue periods.

I strongly doubt that a Corn would shed twice in the space of a week and a half, even a youngster. Still - the rules are, there are no rules!

FWIW, I think that it went down a bit like this.

Snake enter blue (normal), snake exits blue (normal), snake gets dull again within hours of actually shedding (normal), so the skin must be there somewhere.

Try looking harder :shrug:.
 
@bitsy- i'm believing your right on this one... when i thought he'd gone blue, it was just his eyes that looked a little cloudy, but his colors were still the same. i thought THAT was the sign he was about to begin the shed in a couple days, not that his eyes would go blue AND his colors would dull, go back to normal, then shed in a couple days.
now it all makes better sense LOL

thank you all for your input though! i really was confused as to what was going on & why i wasn't easily finding his shed skin :)
 
just thought i'd update this post...
he hadn't shed yet on my last post but did about 5hrs after my last post on here... it was hard to miss too.
very happy it was all in one piece, eye caps included.

thank you to everyone! glad i'm not the only one who had had the "wtf" moment LOL
 
Thanks for the update. The first two or three sheds can be a bit of a steep learning curve! Don't worry - you'll quickly get the hang of what's "normal" for your guy (as you've probably seen, "normal" varies from snake to snake).
