Closet snake room??

Hey, I was thinking about using my closet for my snake room. I haven't seen and threads about it so I was wondering if their is a reason. It just makes sense to me to use it as a snake room. Out of the way, not to much foot traffic, and it's nice and dark at night. Only down fall I can see is Heat and plug outlets. If snakes are already in a 82-85 degree temp do they really need a cold side? (if they do, which I'm sure the answer is YES THEY DO) how would I make a cool side in a hot place? Also, any other reason why you don't hear of snake rooms in closets as much?? -HSJ

My closet is a reptile room. =)

Main problem I have is the temperature, due to the flexwatt on the snakes' tanks and the lack of ventilation. The cool sides of the snakes' tanks ranges from 77-81, and the temperatures in my geckos' tanks falls in that range as well (two rhac species, which prefer mid 70s). So long as it doesn't go near 85, I don't worry too much though.

As for the outlet problem..I just use extension cords and power strips, as there is an outlet near the door to my closet.

I guess you don't hear of snake room closets much is because most people that have reptile rooms have actual rooms available. XD I live in a one bedroom apartment, so the walk-in closet was the best place for me to collect my reptiles.

Awesome!! I live in a apartment also! I know your pain. :) Glad to see another person with my same idea in working use!! I think tomorrow I'll buy a thermometer to check how warm it is in there. If it does become my reptile room it's gonna be a awesome one. The only thing in it is my clothes and my rare collectables with TONS of posters. I'll post pics if I actually get it done.

Luckily I have a 'linen closet' that I installed a curtain rod in to hang the rest of my clothes.

The snake tanks have since been redesigned, but this gives you an idea of how my closet is arranged.

Oh, I forgot, I do know of someone else that uses a closet as a reptile room. They don't use any additional heat, I think the corn snake tubs are somewhere around 80 degrees all the time.

So I guess it's okay, though maybe not ideal, to not have a cool side so long as the tank isn't super hot (say, 90 degrees). Plus if you have a large water bowl in there, the snake can go for a soak if it feels too warm.

Was thinking about the same thing. I actually just removed the thermometer from my emp's tank to put in there for the night and day to see the temps. I can always leave my closet door open with a fan in there pointing out to reduce the heat even more if necessary. Thanks for the pics!! I have shelves that were already in there so I bought tubs and they fit perfect. It'd make a awesome breeding room (down the road) or snake room in general.
